To be considered for the initial shortlist, students must achieve minimum required raw scores in all CAT sections, with positive scores in each, and meet the category-wise percentile cut-offs similar to previous years. IIM Bangalore selection criteria 2026-28 highlight that CAT performance will serve as a key component for the first stage of the shortlisting process.

In Stage 1, IIM Bangalore prepares a pre-PI (Personal Interview) score based on various parameters. The detailed weightage distribution for IIM Bangalore MBA admissions Stage 1 shortlisting is as follows:
CAT Score: 55 points (Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension - 19, Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning - 21, Quantitative Aptitude - 15)
Class 10 Board Marks: 10 points
Class 12 Board Marks: 10 points
Bachelor’s Degree Marks: 10 points
Work Experience / Professional Course: 10 points
Gender Diversity: 5 points (only for pre-PI evaluation)
Academic scores from board exams and undergraduate degrees are normalised, ensuring a fair comparison across different education boards and universities. Professional qualifications such as CA, ICWA, or CS are also considered under the work experience criteria, with the higher score among work experience and professional courses taken into account.
Students must also provide all original documents, academic certificates, and employment details during the admission process. Any discrepancy or false claim related to work experience will lead to cancellation of candidature and disqualification from IIM Bangalore admissions for the next three years. Additionally, the top 10 candidates in each category, based on total CAT score or academic performance, will automatically move forward to the PI stage. Following this, Stage 2 will involve a Personal Interview and Written Ability Test. However, at the Stage 1 shortlisting level, the CAT score for IIM Bangalore remains the most important factor.
