Meghalaya allocated Rs. 3,654 crore for education in 2025–26, boosting infrastructure, digital learning, and scholarships. The plan includes 750 digital libraries and the CM Scholarship Scheme for students up to PhD level.

Meghalaya Allots Rs. 3,654 Crores for Education to Infrastructure, Salaries and Digital Learning: The Meghalaya government has announced a substantial allocation of Rs. 3,654 crore towards the education sector in the financial year 2025-26 budget, indicating the state's determination to build on its learning ecosystem. It is an attempt to improve educational infrastructure, ensure the staff's well-being, and adopt digital learning for children across the state.

A major part of the fund, Rs. 1,403 crore, has been allocated for grant-in-aid salaries to teachers and school employees. This allocation is essential for timely and adequate compensation, which is necessary to retain the quality of teaching staff. The Government is investing in its educators because it is known that they are the drivers of improved learning and student achievement.

For strengthening of physical infrastructure, Rs. 170 crore has been allocated for Capital works that include new construction and renovation of existing facilities. The plan aims for students to be working in safe, modern, and well-equipped classrooms, that are also the state's goal toward offering a more inclusive and efficient education system.

As part of the digital conversion, the state also intends to establish 750 digital libraries in Meghalaya. These centers will provide e-books, online courses, and online learning tools to help bridge the digital divide and allow students to be prepared for a technological economy.

To foster excellence and access among students of all backgrounds, the government also implemented the Chief Minister’s Scholarship Scheme (CMSS) 2025 , wherein students from Class XI to PhD will get Rs. 6,000 per annum , irrespective of their income.

"The Government has endeavoured to improve human resources and provide inclusive, quality education to each student in Meghalaya," Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma said about the budget for education. “It’s not just an investment in infrastructure or salaries, it is an investment in the future of Meghalaya youth,” he said.

The 2025–26 education budget is an Investment in Staff welfare and infrastructure to improve as digital Innovations for a stronger and more equitable system of Education across Meghalaya.
