Tezpur University has bagged the crown of the best Central University in the country 2016 by the Ministry of Human Resources Development. This will be a big boost for the university and also for the state's education sector, said Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi while congratulating the University.
The Chief Minister said he was doubly happy that Tezpur University bagged the prestigious award as he had been instrumental in persuading the then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi for two Central universities in the state -- one at Tezpur and the other at Silchar.
"It is rare to find two Central Varsities in any state. I am grateful to Rajivji for heeding to my plea for two Central Varsities in Assam," Gogoi added.
Gogoi congratulated the University and hoped that the university would continue in providing quality education and with academic excellence and would grow further and reach new heights.
The award will be presented to the university by President Pranab Mukherjee on March 14. Last year, the award was conferred on Hyderabad Central University.
