Belfast Metropolitan College is the largest provider of further education i.e. post-16 education in Northern Ireland. It is one of the Higher Education Colleges in the United Kingdom. It was established in 1906 with an official opening in 1907. The college of business studies opened in 1970. In 1991 it was established as the Belfast Institute of Further and Higher Education. In 2007, the college was created after a merger of the Belfast Institute of Further and Higher Education and Castlereagh College. The College is accredited by the British Council for the teaching of English and it also possesses a UKVI Highly Trusted Sponsor license.
Infrastructure, Campus & Courses
The campus of Millfield is situated in the central region of the city. It is close to all amenities, shops and is also an entertainment hub. All the courses offered by Belfast Metropolitan College are delivered at 4 campuses. The main campus is Titanic Quarter followed by rest three namely, Millfield, Castlereagh and e3/Springvale. The main campus has various academic departments, conference halls, cafeterias, fitness suite, dining restaurant and much more.
It offers courses for undergraduate programs as foundations and degrees. It offers Foundation programs in Accounting, Biological Sciences, Tourism Management, Engineering, and Cyber Security. Some of the bachelor degrees offered at Belfast Metropolitan College are Social Work, Fashion Production and Professional Development in Leadership and Management.
Accomplishments & Alumni
Northern Ireland European Social Fund Programme 2014 – 2020 and the Department for the Economy fund a few courses at the college. Some of the well-known personalities from the Belfast Metropolitan College Alumni Network are Colin Morgan (actor), John Irvine (journalist), Eamonn Holmes (journalist) Danny Blanchflower (Footballer), and many more.
Student Diversity & Visiting Companies
As of 2019, it holds an enrollment of 37,000 students enrolled for undergraduate and foundation studies. Top organizations where the alumni work includes Tesco, Ulster University, BOMBARDIER, Belfast Health and Social Care Trust, Concentrix, PwC, Queen's University Belfast, Deloitte UK, and Sainsbury's to name a few.
