The University of Bedfordshire is a public university situated in Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire, England. The university was established in 1882 but earned the university status in 1992 as the University of Luton. It then changed its name to the University of Bedfordshire in 2006 by the approval of the Privy Council by consolidating with the University of Luton and the Bedford campus of De Montfort University. The university is officially recognized by the Privy Council. The University of Bedfordshire is ranked 67th out of 130 UK universities according to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2020.
Infrastructure, Campus & Courses
The University of Bedfordshire is spread across six urban campuses: there are four campuses in Bedfordshire, in Bedford and Luton; and two campuses in Buckinghamshire, in Aylesbury (for students studying Nursing and Midwifery), and in Milton Keynes (where business studies, electronic engineering, and telecommunications are taught). The university has four faculties: Creative Arts, Technologies and Science; Education and Sport; Health and Social Sciences. The most sought after courses at the university are Life Sciences, Social Sciences, Business, Economics, Psychology, Education, Communication and Media Studies, and Computer Science.
Accomplishments & Alumni
The university entered the Research Assessment Exercise in 2008 and received a GPA of 2.087 with 34.7% world-leading or globally excellent. Also, in 2004 The Sunday Times awarded the university the title of 'Best New University' and in 2007 it was shortlisted for the Times Higher Education Supplement's University of the Year 2007. Besides, the university was awarded the Queen's Award for Enterprise: International Trade in 2011. Notable alumni include Zema Abbey, Richard Page, Ben Myers, Stephen Kelman, and Rachel Hopkins to name a few.
