Kerala University Overview

Kerala University was one of the first 16 universities in India. It was established in 1937 under the name ‘University of Travancore’. It is also the first university in Kerala to receive an A++ grade from NAAC. Moreover, as per NIRF ranking 2023, the university was ranked 47 with an overall score of 52.75 and ranked 24 in the university category. Majorly, sixteen faculties and forty-one departments comprise the Kerala University campus. The total number of students at the University of Kerala stands at 84,000. Apart from the basic amenities, Kerala University facilities include separate hostels for men and women, technologically advanced laboratories, smart classrooms, and sports facilities, just to name a few!

Out of the wide range of Kerala University courses, the prime focus is on post-graduate programmes, MPhil programmes and doctoral research programmes. Regarding the undergraduate courses, Kerala University has under its domain 10 University College of Teacher Education (UTEC) and 8 University Institute of Technologies (UIT).  In UTEC, BEd courses are taught and in UTI’s BSc Computer Science/IT, Electronics/BBA courses are offered. Kerala University admissions are done in two ways. For some courses, a centralised online admission process is followed and for others, admission is done on the basis of entrance examinations.

Kerala University has a total of150+ affiliated colleges. Kerala University Cut Off 2023

Kerala University cut-off 2023 is soon going to be released for both UG and PG courses. For both UG and PG courses, the university administers its own entrance exam every year. The Kerala University admission to the M.Tech course will be based on the GATE 2023 cut-off list that will be released once the GATE results are out. Likewise, for admission to MSW, MAHRM and MSW(DM) courses, a common entrance test is conducted by the university and after the declaration of the result, Kerala University cut-off 2023 will be released in the form of index marks. As the current year's cutoff has not been released yet, in the meantime, candidates can go through the previous year's Kerala University cutoff list. Kerala University Courses and Fees

Kerala University courses are offered at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels across 43 departments with a total of 154 courses.The CSS (Credit and Semester System) courses at Kerala University are also available such as M.Tech, MBA, M.Phil, M.Sc, MA, MSW, M.Lib.Sc and more. MBA courses at Kerala University are offered at the Institute of Management in Kerala, the University Institute of Management, and the university itself. All undergraduate courses at Kerala University are divided into semesters. Students will be admitted to first-year degree programmes at Kerala University's affiliated colleges and centres in the faculties of science, applied sciences and technology, arts, fine arts, social sciences, oriental studies, management studies, and commerce. Except for B.PEd and BFA, all the Kerala University courses at the UG level are referred to as first-degree programmes. Career-related first-degree programmes include vocational, triple main, and restructured courses. All Kerala University PG courses are also divided into semesters. Both types of Kerala University fees, namely, registration fees and admission fees must be paid by candidates to secure their seats. Kerala University Results 2023

All the Kerala University results 2023 for the UG and PG programmes are made available on the university's official website. The results of the semester as well as semester-end exams can be checked and obtained by visiting the university's official website. The University of Kerala also gives students the choice of reexamining the answer keys. If students are not satisfied with their grades, they may ask for a reevaluation of their answer scripts after the results are released. The revaluation application forms must be submitted online only at the Kerala University website.

Kerala University Admission

Both undergraduate and postgraduate students may apply for Kerala University admission. Law, constitutional and administrative law, mass communication, business, computer science engineering, etc. are some of the streams where candidates can apply for Kerala University admissions. Academic merit is used to determine who gets admitted to undergraduate programmes at Kerala University, with the exception of BFA and BPEd. For B.F.A. and B.P.Ed. admission, the university administers an entrance exam.

Candidates must appear for the respective entrance exam in order to be considered for postgraduate admission to Kerala University. Based on how well candidates performed on the admission exam, a rank list will be created. For sponsored candidates, the ranking will be determined by 80% weighted CGPA/aggregate grades at the bachelor's level, 10% weighted job experience (1%/year), and 10% weighted a department council interview. Candidates who want to secure admission must adhere to the Kerala University admission criteria. Various courses such as BBA, BCA, BFA, BSW, M.Lib.ISc, MCJ, LLM, etc. are among those available for Kerala University admission.

Kerala University UG Admission Process 2023

  • Interested candidates must meet all the Kerala University eligibility criteria to secure admission.
  • Then, the candidates must completely fill out the application form.
  • Candidates will be offered admissions based on the qualifications in the last qualifying exam as well as entrance exams.
  • The candidates must have to appear in the university-administered entrance exams for admission to the BPEd and BFA courses.
  • Students must pass the National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA), given by the Council of Architecture, in order to get admission to the B.Arch programme.

Kerala University Scholarships

Kerala University scholarships are offered to interested candidates based on their needs and merit. Both undergraduate and postgraduate scholarships are available at Kerala University. Kerala University Campus

The Kerala University campus offers students a wide range of infrastructural facilities. Six hostels are available to the students, four of which are for girls and two for guys. There is a playground on the university campus where students can play sports like hockey, football, and cricket. The Department of Physical Education provides a variety of venues for adventure sport participation. The department also includes a stadium where different sporting events can be held. The campus of Kerala University has complete wifi access, which has made it easier to finish the e-governance programmes that were offered there. In addition, Kerala University facilities include an auditorium that serves as a venue for all cultural events, transportation options, an ATM, etc.

  • Campus library: The Kerala University library was opened in 1976 and serves as a resource for academics conducting research, is located on the Kariavattom campus.   • Departmental libraries: In addition to the campus library, each teaching department has a dedicated library of its own, with 34 at the Kariavattom site and 6 at the Senate House campus.
  • Kerala University Sports facilities: Kerala University campus provides excellent opportunities for participating in sports. There is a playground at the university where students can play football, hockey, and cricket. The students can also play games in the gym or indoors.
  • Observatory: At a height between 60 feet and 200 feet above sea level, the Trivandrum Observatory is situated atop a hill. 8 degrees 30 minutes north latitude and around 76 degrees 59 minutes east longitude are the observatory's coordinates in the world's coordinate system. It belongs to the Physics department of the campus of Kerala University.
