Admission Process

For Admission in PGPM

Students are often confused about the evaluation criteria used by the various Indian Institutes of Management. Since every IIM has its own selection process, it becomes difficult for the students to approach their score with a standard approach. To fill this information void, CollegeDekho has come up with the revised selection criteria and admission rules have been introduced by IIM Lucknow. There has been a slight change in the CAT 2019 cut-off for PwD students as compared to 2018.

IIM Lucknow Selection Criteria 2019:

Candidates aspiring to take admission in IIM Lucknow will have to clear minimum CAT cutoff set by the Institute. Based on the CAT scores, IIM Lucknow generates a merit list basis which candidates will be called for Writing Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI). Factors such as performance in class 10th and 12th board exams, work experience, and diversity are also considered in the process. The admission process is done in the following two stages:

Seat Matrix:-

GN OBC SC ST Total Seats
211 113 63 32 419

Stage 1: Shortlisting Candidates for WAT and PI

CAT scores and previous academic record of candidates are evaluated to shortlist them for stage 1. For the PG-SM course offered by the institute, candidates must have a minimum work experience of 24 months.

Minimum CAT cutoff for PGP:

Category Verbal & Reading Comprehension Percentile Rank (PVRC) Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning Percentile Rank (PDILR) Quantitative Aptitude Percentile Rank (PQA) Overall Percentile Rank

NC-OBC 77 77 77 82
SC 55 55 55 70
ST 50 50 50 65
PWD 50 50 50 65

Minimum CAT cutoff for PGP-ABM:

NC-OBC 72 72 72 77
SC 55 55 55 65
ST 50 50 50 60
PWD 50 50 50 60

Minimum CAT cutoff for PGP-SM:

SC 55 55 55 65
ST 50 50 50 60
PWD 50 50 50 60

Candidates who have cleared the required percentile are considered for composite score evaluation and are shortlisted for WAT and PI. Various components are considered for evaluating composite score and each component has certain weights.

IIM Calcutta CAT Weightage 2019:

Scaled CAT Score (SC) 60 60 60
Score in Class 12 Board Exam 10 10 10
Marks secured in Graduation 10 10 10
Work Experience 10 0 10
Diversity Factors (academic disciplines) 5 20 (maximum) 5
Diversity Factors (gender) 5 5 (maximum) 5
Total Composite Score 100 100 100

NOTE: Maximum marks for diversity in academic disciplines cannot exceed 20. Also, candidates seeking admission in PGP-ABM/PGP-SM programmes have to fill up the special form of PGP-ABM/PGP-SM to be considered for the WAT and PI stage.

Evaluation of the above components is done as follows:

1. Scaled CAT Score (CS): This is determined with the help of the highest CAT score of the year. Following is the formula of evaluating:

CS = (Candidate’s CAT Score/Highest CAT score of the year) x A; where A = 60

2. Score in Class 12 Board Exam: Candidates are allotted weights for score class 12th board as per the following table:

Marks Scored by Candidate Weights
<=80 0
80.01 to 82.00 1
82.01 to 84.00 2
84.01 to 86.00 3
86.01 to 88.00 4
88.01 to 90.00 5
90.01 to 92.00 6
92.01 to 94.00 7
94.01 to 96.00 8
96.01 to 98.00 9
98.01 to 100 10

3. Marks secured in Graduation: Performance in graduation is normalized according to the discipline of the candidate such as Engineering, Science, Commerce, Arts, etc. It is evaluated using the formula given below.

Graduation Marks = [ { ((Candidate’s percentage in Graduation – u)/p) x (50/3) } + 50 ] x 0.1

Where, u = mean deviation of respective academic discipline;

p = standard deviation of respective academic discipline

Marks will be evaluated between 0 to 10.

4. Work Experience: This component is evaluated according to the table given below:

Condition Formula
If programme is PGP and m>6 Experience = min{(m-6) x 0.50, 10}
If programme is PGP-ABM Experience = 0
If programme is PGP-SM and m>24 Experience = min{(x-24) x 0.50, 10}

Here's’ is the number of months counted as work experience counted till the day the CAT notification of the year is released.

5. Diversity Factors (academic discipline): Different academic disciplines carry different weightage. IIM Lucknow has divided discipline into two columns given below:

Disciplined for PGP/PGP-SM Programme Disciplined for PGP-ABM Programme
Column 1 Column 2
Arts and Humanities Agriculture
Commerce, Economics, Banking, Business Mathematics, Business Administration, Public Administration, Public Finance, Secretarial Practices Biochemistry, Bio-technology (including engineering), Botany, Home Science, Life Science, Zoology

If programme is PGP or PGP-ABM & Discipline in Column 2 20
Else 0

6. Diversity Factors (gender): Diversity factor is considered to maintain equilibrium in the number of male and female students in the courses mentioned courses. Female students applying for the above-mentioned courses are given a 5 as gender diversity weight and all others are awarded zero.

Stage 2: Final Selection

The final selection is done on the basis of the weights assigned in the following table:
