Bharati College Campus and Infrastructure

One of the best women’s colleges in India, Bharati College was established in 1971 as Bharati Mahila College. Affiliated with Delhi University (DU), the college’s aim was to provide higher education to every female student, encouraging them to learn and gather knowledge in their desired field. Bharati College also made sure that higher education was accessible to women from all sections of society. With nominal course fees, Bharati College offered courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in fields like arts, commerce, science and language.

The college started its journey with a limited number of 241 students and 13 faculty members at Karol Bagh. Bharati College later shifted to 8.6 acres of campus in C-4 Janakpuri, West Delhi. The college started operating from its new location in 1998. 

The Bharati College campus at Janakpuri is well facilitated and set in an eco-friendly environment. It has 23 classrooms, 46 tutorial rooms, a seminar and conference room, a studio theatre and 3 computer Labs with over 120+ computers. The Bharati College campus also introduced a new building consisting of 26 rooms, 2 labs and a staff room.

The college offers hostel facilities as well. The Bharati College hostel can accommodate 70 students. It includes 25 fully ventilated spacious rooms and a full-time warden. A mess serving four meals a day at a very nominal charge. The food is prepared by maintaining the nutrition guidelines and proper hygiene. The dining hall and the kitchen are cleaned regularly.

The other Bharati College facilities include an auditorium with all the state-of-the-art modern facilities, a fully digitized library, three computer labs with 100+ computers with internet facility, access to portals under the UGC-Infonet E-journal Consortium, a photostat shop, telephone booth, a seminar hall, a committee room, a medical room with a doctor and a nurse, a counselling centre for ones in need of psychodynamic counselling, studio theatre, a canteen, bank and much more.

Bharati College Facilities

Some of the facilities available at the Bharati College camps are: 

Library: The Bharati College library is large and well-equipped. It is a computerised library with all the latest textbooks, reference books and journals in various subjects being available. The library works on an Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) system which helps locate all the reading material on the computer. Separate reading rooms for the students and teachers are there. A xerox machine is also available.

Auditorium: The auditorium was inaugurated in July 2021. It is fully air-conditioned with a seating capacity of 350. It is well-equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure and has a motorised and fire-retardant stage curtain. A JBL surround speaker, full stage lighting system, halogen Fresnel, a plano-convex spotlight and cyclorama flood lights, two green rooms with attached toilets, fire extinguishers and has 4 exit points are there for emergencies.

Seminar Room: It has a seating capacity of about 100 people. Here seminars, conferences, departmental functions, talks, screening of films etc. take place.

Theatre Room: It has a studio theatre for the production of plays and the organisation of drama workshops.

Computer Labs: There are four computer laboratories with 150+ computers with wifi accessible to students, faculty and non-teaching staff.

Canteen: It has a well-maintained canteen with a seating capacity of 50 people. Food and beverages are available at nominal rates. It is hygienic and very well maintained.

Gym: The gymnasium was introduced in 2011, now being a multi-gym station that has a treadmill, cross trainer, etc. The charges are nominal and can be availed by teachers, students and staff members. It also includes a Yoga Centre.

Medical Centre: Bharati College also has a medical centre with a female medical officer for free consultations.

Facilities for Differently Abled: The college has separate toilets, reserved parking lot spaces, ramps, signage, enabling room with a computer, printer and other facilities for differently abled students.

Other Facilities: The other facilities available at the Bharati College campus are a common room, xerox shop, CCTV, internet access, a music room, human development and family empowerment lab, an OMSP lab and proper sports grounds.

Students Activities & Clubs

Nature Club -

Bharati college has Eco Club: Palaash which has organized various activities from time to time. The club organized visit of students to Aravali bio-diversity park to make them aware of flora and fauna which are not seen in the real world. Eco Club works along with CMS vanatavaran. Director CMS vatavaran has shared films and given tasks to student volunteers.
Student volunteers of Eco club have successfully organized with huge participation in Nature Walks, Tree plantation drive, Cleanliness drive. Eco club conducts green audit under which students count number of plants. Eco club has formed various brigades of students voltuneers like electricity brigade,water brigade,garbage brigade. These brigades monitor efficient and effective use of all the resources of the college.
Bio composting- Eco club uses horticulture and college canteen wastes for making organic compost and have 5 pits measuring 9*9. through this procedure Eco Club is able to generate compost only for the college gardens but also sells it to students, IIT and Army. The compost developed here does not use any chemicals and makes use of cow dung only for decomposing segregation of the compost is done by students only.
Burning of dry leaves is totally banned in college campus now in a move to protect air pollution. Rain water harvesting was started by college in 2002 designed and supported by science and environment department. With this water table has increased to 6-7 in comparison to neighbouring areas . It has also increased the quality of water.


Movie Club -

Bharati College Film Club was instituted as a distinct extra-curricular society in August 2013. It is open to all students of the college,To this effect,

it has evolved a comprehensive policy of multi-lingual and multi-genre screenings of mainstream and parallel cinema and documentaries on a regular, weekly basis. Accordingly, an eclectic variety of movies Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Udaan and Life of Pi being some of the most well-received ones were screened every Friday for much of this academic session.and includes a faculty coordinator and a core committee of four student representatives President, Vice President, Secretary and Joint Secretary from all three years. It aims to educate and empower students by analysing the medium and probing into various issues which it puts into the public domain, and to creatively employ the cinematic medium for pertinent interventions on socially relevant issues.In collaboration with the Public Services Broadcasting Trust, PSBT, a week-long documentary film festival was also organised in the third week of September 2013 on a range of topical issues. Two texts were screened every day, and respondents from the Departments of English, History and Political Science chaired the screenings throughout the week.

Debates and a poster-making competition were also held on the sides of this event.
Future plans include systematising Club screenings, organising interactions with directors and scriptwriters, creating a lending library of DVDs, and widening our reach beyond the college. A major project is the production of a short film on the everyday life of a common girl being managed by Club members; we hope to release the same by the beginning of March 2014. Lastly, we also aim to inculcate an in-house culture of critical thinking amongst Club members by embarking upon a series of reading sessions amongst the same.


Fashion Club -

Elantre the French word means, Be Elegant and this is what we want our young ladies to be Elegant, Smart and Confident, when they step out in the World after their college. Elantre, The fashion society was formed in the year 2014 with the objective of giving our girls a platform wherein they could portray their talent in the field of Fashion’. Today’s youth is versatile and wants to explore the non-traditional arenas where they make their mark. One of them being The Fashion World. Our girls have proved it right by bagging so many awards in the year of the inception of the society .Elantre also gives an advantage to the girls to pursue Fashion as a career after completing the college. The keen interest shown by the girls and their remarkable hardwork has made this Society leave a mark wherever they went. It is quite evident from the media attention they have received. A bright future is lying ahead of this Society provided they are supported and our college never shies away from this. The faculty and the Principal of the college have been ever supportive and encouraging the young lasses of our college.


Debating Club -

The basic aim of the Society is to create an environment which promotes interaction between students and teachers through debates, declamations, elocutions and discussions. Such activities create awareness and thus help students in opinion formation on relevant contemporary issues. Apart from providing a platform to students to voice their opinions, as a second step such activities help students towards shaping their ideas in to changes that they wish to bring about in the world around them.


Dance Club -

ADVAITA, the word derived from Sanskrit means One of a Kind or Non Duality. It simply means not two!! And this is what we preach.. ONENESS..

Advaita was formed in 2012 , the society is defined by its forte in Western Dance Forms. It consists of 20 members at present drawn from various streams of education through their skill and passion for dance. Advaita is not only one of the most popular societies of the college, but is also the most efficient and prominent one.

Advaita performs in all of our college events like Fresher’s party, Bharati Cup (annual sports meet), Independence Day, Annual Day, Abhivyakti (annual cultural fest), Farewell and what all comes up choreographed by the team itself..

We compete in all the western dance competitions held in DU and in other Universities too.

Sanskrit club -

Dr. Kanta Rani Bhatia, Principal of Bharati College is the Founder member of this society. Aim of the society is:

  • make students aware for extra-curricular activities-as recitation, quiz, speech, debate, sketch making, slogan writing competition etc.

  • to shape up their personality.


English Club -

Run by the Department of English, the first activity the society for this academic session 2010-11 was JUST A MINUTE Competition (“JAM” in popular usage). The purpose of “JAM” was to develop quick thinking together with good speaking, good grammar and appropriate use of words. The speakers were given half a minute to think and another minute to speak on the topic. They were assessed on the basis of the content of their talk, confidence, comprehension of the topic and manner of speech. Some of the topics for the event were I wish I was a bird, my idea of perfect weekend, perfect life, how to keep Earth green, my school days and so on. This was followed by preparing a Logo for the society. Other competitions such as Story writing, Debate, Extempore, Poetry recitation and Paper writing were also organized in later weeks. Many more interesting activities and events are also on the cards.

Bharati College has spacious hostels for girls students. The college takes hostel fees on an annual basis. The per annum hostel fees of Bharati College is Rs 81,000. Yes, Bharati College offers hostels for female students on the campus. Admission to the hostels is done on the basis of merit, as it is one of the main criteria for consideration. The hostel admission fee is Rs 500. You will also have to go through an interview procedure, for final selection. The hostels are safe and secure will all the necessary facilities. The hostel facilities offered at Bharati College include rooms with furniture, clean washrooms, 24x7 electricity and water supply, common rooms, medical facilities, visitors area, dining hall, etc. The annual hostel fees is Rs 54,600, and the mess charges is Rs 3,600 per month.
