Students Activities & Clubs
Adventure Club was a brainchild of Malli Mastaan Babu ( 39th batch at IIM C), the patron saint of all trekkers. The man who achieved the incredible feat of scaling the highest peaks of the seven continents in 172 days, the fastest so far . Having begun under such able hands the club took it's task seriously and organized treks, hikes and camping trips for the students of IIM-Calcutta during vacations. And also a fair bit of on-campus activities like triathlons, crowd-runs (where a huge group of students jog together) , wall-climbing, etc.
This rich heritage has been given a structure, now the club comprises of three branches -treks team , on-campus team and design team. The number of on campus events have increased like "Tour de joka ", (conducted in association with Tata Steel Adventure Foundation) a biathlon of running and cycling, a wall rappelling workshop and many mor
The Choreography club of IIM Calcutta brings together students interested in celebrating life through dance. Choreo Club makes its presence felt in each and every function at IIM Calcutta. In addition, the club trains students with no prior dance experience through workshops conducted by professionals. Of the few memorable memories that every student carries forward from IIM Calcutta, the performances by Choreo Club would surely be one among them.
The Consulting Club, IIM Calcutta is a student-run, corporate-facilitated and faculty-guided student body of IIM Calcutta. It was setup with an objective of benefiting the students' community through consulting events, live industry consulting projects, seminars, workshops and other student activities. Besides organising several national level events every year, it has now taken the lead in forming an International Consulting Consortium which includes consulting clubs from the likes of theKellogg School of Management, UCLA (Anderson School of Management),London Business School (LBS), Peter F. Drucker Graduate School Of Business,University of Western Ontario (Richard Ivey School Of Business) and University of Melbourne (Melbourne Business School), among a host of others. Now, that is truly international!
The Finance & Investments Club of IIM Calcutta, popularly known as the FinClub is a student driven initiative that collaborates with both the corporate and academia from the financial sector to provide a platform for students to improve their quantitative and analytical thinking abilities. The club organizes activities to assist members in evaluating careers in finance and identifying current career opportunities, extend the practical finance education with job-specific knowledge and connect members with alumni and other finance professionals. Some of the more popular activities include industry talks, workshops, information sessions about careers/companies and virtual stock trading competitions.

We are the Operations Club of IIM Calcutta. We pride ourselves at being the club that bridges the gap between classroom teaching and practical application in the field of operations.
Conceptualized in 2011 by the 47th PGP batch of IIM Calcutta and with over-whelming support from the faculty of Operations Management, we took just two years to transform from a ‘Special Interest Group’ to a full-fledged Club. Our rapid success can be attributed to the various facets of the club.
We have been successful in bringing the most number of live projects which include projects from Indian Railways, L&T and Amazon, Advatech and many others.
We are the only club across B-Schools in India engaging 60+ MBA institutes through our monthly online event ‘Ops Cociente’. Other than this we have conducted large number of campus events like Nirmaan, Flip-it-Fast, ManuFactor, Battlefield based on the various concepts of supply chain, constraint management, inventory management etc. Through these engagements, we try to increase the student enthusiasm towards operations and continue to evolve and innovate at the same time.
We are one of the few clubs, which has its own magazine, where students, faculty and industry stalwarts put their opinions on various developments in the field of Operations. Also with a Preparation team of its own, Operations Club adds further value to the chain, by helping students with the preparation for a career in Operations Management.
Last but not the least, our Industry Interaction team, brings the industry stalwarts from the field of Operations to share their knowledge and experience. Personalities such as Mr. Naresh Kumar (author of “10,000 Km on Indian Highway”) and many others have graced our events on numerous occasions.
A part of the cultural wing, the IIMC "Kweej" club is essentially defined by the precocious achievements of some of the country's legendary quizzers. And quizzing is as entrenched a tradition here as parties. It goes back to the days of 'seeding quizzes' during the early batches, some of which used to be conducted by the likes of Neil O'Brien - the original patriarch of this mental gymnastics. To keep count of achievements is no mean task, IIM Calcutta teams have been winners of popular quiz shows like Quiz Time, finalists of Mastermind India and several other high octane quizzes in open events across the country. Their latest triumph has been at "Nihilanth '11", the inter IIM-IIT Quiz, where they floored the competition. Internally the IIM Calcutta quizzing calendar is made up of a number of quizzes many of which are currently championed by our students. BBC Mastermind, watch this space!
Persona, the literary club of the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta, brings together the creative on campus Joka. Besides giving a platform to the literati of IIM-C to showcase their talents, Persona conducts numerous events throughout the year for the rest of the campus to enjoy and excel in. Personaites, as members of Persona are called, stress on the importance of having powerful language skills not only in their personal but in their professional lives as well. Constantly endeavouring to polish and perfect their soft-skills, they epitomize the club motto – Evolve.
Persona has three major aspects to its functioning:
Inquest is Persona's bi-monthly campus magazine. It is the only magazine on campus that is distributed as a hard copy. It covers all the major events, gossips and social happenings within the campus. It also provides a medium for one to get read by the entire student community.
Diamond Harbour (www.persona-online.com) is the online initiative of Persona. Re-launched this year, Diamond Harbour provides a window into the literary talents at IIM-C. Along with featuring the creative ramblings of Personaites, Diamond Harbour launches periodic competitions for the IIM-C community at large.
The Events team within Persona organizes new and innovative events throughout the year to involve the student community and to provide them with avenues to exhibit their talents. Events like debates, poetry recitals, creative writing competitions, JAM (Just-a-Minute), extempore etc. are held round the year. The highlight remains Persona Sunday: a two-day-weekend lineup of literary events that coincides with the Hindi Fortnight.
