Eligibility

The Bachelor of Nursing is a clinically focused academic programme that provides preparation for entry to the register of Nurses in New Zealand. To be a Registered Nurse students need to have integrity and empathy, a spirit of inquiry and a commitment to learning. Students need to be able to work independently and as part of a team. They must have a mature outlook, a sense of responsibility and a genuine desire to care for people. A personal interview may be part of the application process.

ACADEMIC ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

Applicants must meet degree standard entry requirements. Approved bridging/foundation programmes include: the Certificate in Health Science, or Diploma in Therapeutic and Sport Massage.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE ENTRY REQUIREMENT

Students are required to have attained an acceptable level of English language fluency. This may be demonstrated in a variety of ways, including successful study in English, approved scores on IELTS (academic) 6.5 with no band less that 6.0, in one exam sitting.

FIRST AID CERTIFICATE

Once accepted into the Bachelor of Nursing programme, students are required to have a valid First Aid Certificate (includes US 26551 Provide first aid for life threatening conditions Level 2 and US 26552 Demonstrate knowledge of common first aid conditions and how to respond to them Level 2 on the NZQA Framework) before the programme begins.  If they do not have a First Aid Certificate it can be obtained through St John or Red Cross. If they have a valid First Aid Certificate (valid for two years from date of issue) they will need to provide a witnessed copy of the certificate with their application.

ENTRY WITH CREDIT

Students may already have some knowledge or skills that can be recognised as part of their intended study. This may take a number of different forms including study while at high school, study at a private training establishment, workplace training, other tertiary study, life experiences or voluntary work. If they think that they may qualify, they may want to apply for Cross Credit or Recognition of Prior Learning.

  • Cross Credit is based on the equivalency of courses or qualifications. Students would apply for Cross Credit if they have passed a very similar course at the same level.

Students will be asked to provide details of anything that they would like considered as credit toward their intended programme of study, as part of their application.

Students must apply prior to enrolment.  RPL and Cross Credit cannot be awarded for a course if students are enrolled in that course.  An original transcript or notice of results from the institute at which they previously studied (or verified copies) will be required for all applications.

ACADEMIC ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

This may be demonstrated in a variety of ways, including successful study in English, approved scores on TOEFL or IELTS (6.0 Academic) tests, completion of accepted international equivalents, or completion of an EIT assessment.

Applicants for the Postgraduate Diploma in Information Technology must have successfully completed an undergraduate degree in Information Technology or related field.

Those applicants wishing to apply for the Master of Information Technology must have successfully completed an undergraduate degree in Information Technology or related field, or the Postgraduate Diploma in Information Technology. Where a candidate’s undergraduate degree does not provide the basis of study at the level required for more advanced study, students will be required to enrol in the Postgraduate Diploma in Information Technology.
