AUT, the second-largest university in New Zealand, was established in the year 2000. Formerly known as the Auckland Institute of Technology (AIT), the place of learning has been in existence for 120 years. The university is accepted as a member of Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), Association of Southeast Asian Institutions of Higher Learning (ASAIHL) and the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU). In the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2020, the university ranked in the top 1% of universities worldwide. It has also been ranked 32nd for global research impact and 23rd for social and economic impact in the Times Higher Education University Impact Rankings 2020.
Infrastructure, Campus & Courses
AUT has three modern campuses around Auckland including City Campus, North Campus and South Campus. All of them have numerous award-winning buildings like the state-of-the-art Computer, Engineering and Mathematical Sciences building, which are popular for their unique design features. The university also has a variety of world-class facilities including two motion capture studios; top sports science facility; AUT Millennium; two major radio telescopes and so on. AUT offers a wide array of undergraduate, postgraduate, certificate/diploma and short courses in fields like architecture, communication studies, business and economics, law, science, engineering and so on.
Accomplishments & Alumni
AUT has more than 1,00,000 graduates making their marks in the country and all across the world. The university ranked 15th among the top millennial universities and 40th among the young universities in the latest Times Higher Education Young University world rankings. From Broadcast journalists at BBC to Managing Directors of leading companies, the university’s influential alumni have achieved recognition and made an impact in diverse fields. Notable alumni include Alex Mackenzie, Angela Anderson, Ashwin Pillay, Bridget Dawson, Bronson Wilson, Carolina Figueira, to name a few.
Student Diversity & Visiting Companies
With 5,600 students from more than 100 countries and 50% of its academic staff from overseas, AUT is consistently ranked first in New Zealand for international outlook by QS and Times Higher Education. The AUT Employability and Careers team helps students consider career options; improve networks through career fairs, workshops and employer presentation; and develop employability skills in order to stand out from the crowd. The combination of theoretical and practical learning at AUT makes its graduates widely favoured by the recruiters. Around 94% of AUT grads are offered paid employment within nine months of graduation.
