I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical Universityis situated in Moscow city and represents the largest medical, scientific and clinical complex in Russia. University proudly holds the position of one of the most prestigious medical universities of Russia. I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University is one of the medical universities for Russia recognized by MCI, WHO, UK, USA and other major countries.  I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University is the first and the oldest medical school in Russia tracing its history from the medical faculty of Moscow Imperial University founded in 1758. Having passed the path of glory I.M. Sechenov First MSMU enriched national and world science with many distinguished scientists and significant discoveries, and brought up thousands of physicians devoted to their work. Many of the University alumni have been recognized internationally for their outstanding contribution to global medicine and other spheres. Botkin S.P., Korsakoff S.S., Pirogov N.N., Sechenov I.M., Sklifosovsky N.V., and Chekhov A.P. are the most renowned. The history of First MSMU is tightly connected with the history of medical education and healthcare in Russia. I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University is an active member of World Heath Organization (WHO). I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University was one of the first to start the admission (direct admission in mbbs) of foreign students back in 1949. Nowadays about 20 % of the students are foreign students and this fact has secured I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University's the first place in the list of Russian medical universities in terms of the number of foreign students. Training is conducted in Russian, English and French depending on the type of educational programme chosen. International applicants who do not have a good command of the Russian language can take a one-year Preparatory/Foundation Course or Russian-for-Foreigners Course. I.M. Sechenov Moscow Medical Academy was granted a status of the University and has changed its name into I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University.

IM is partnered with USMLE GMC, AMC and some of the best course providers to train students for such qualifying exams.

The fourth product is a fast track program that helps doctors to become consultants. Through the Manipal University, IMC brings expert faculty to help train the students to face the MRCP and MRCS examinations successfully.

For a student to become a doctor outside of the state universities and practice in Sri Lanka, they must fulfill the SLMC minimum requirements of 2C’s and 1S, either through London A/L or local A/L. Then they must attend a SLMC recognized university. SLMC recognizes many medical universities around the world, which a student can discover by visiting the SLMC website or through a book published by the SLMC. Once they return to Sri Lanka, they must face the ERPM examination for Registration to Practice Medicine in Sri Lanka.
