NIT Hamirpur - Admission 2025, Fees, Courses, Placement, Ranking

National Institute of Technology (NIT) Hamirpur is one of the country's 31 NITs, founded on August 7, 1986, as Regional Engineering College, a collaborative and cooperative venture of India and the Government of Himachal Pradesh. At the time of its founding, NIT Hamirpur only had two departments, Civil and Electrical Engineering, each with a 30-student intake. It was elevated to the National Institute of Technology and given the status of Deemed University on June 26, 2002. NIT Hamirpur is a national institute established by an act of Parliament, the National Institute of Technology Act 2007, which the President of India signed on June 5, 2007. The provisions of the Act took effect on August 15, 2007, as per Department of Higher Education, MHRD, New Delhi notice S.O. 1384 (E) dated August 9, 2007.

NIT Hamirpur admission 2025 is ongoing for various courses. For BTech admission, JEE Main 2025 has already been conducted and JoSAA counselling is currently ongoing, round 1 and 2 have already been conducted and round 3 results are to be declared on July 4, 2025. JEE Mains 2026 applications will start from November 2025, and the 1st session will be conducted in January 2026. For MTech admissions, GATE registration will commence in August,2025 and exam will be held on February 7, 8, 14, and 15, 2025. Admission to MSc is based on the IIT-JAM score. The NIRF ranking for 2025 has not been released yet. As per the NIRF Ranking 2024, NIT Hamirpur has been ranked at the 32 position in Architecture. In the Engineering domain, NIT Hamirpur has been ranked in 101-150 rank band by NIRF ranking 2024 while the institute was ranked 28 in the Architecture and Planning category with a score of 51.54 in the year 2023. This year the Architecture category was changed to a broader category called Architecture and Planning. NIT Hamirpur was ranked in the Architecture and Planning category in the NIRF Ranking list. NIT Hamirpur Times Higher Education World University Ranking 2023, was in the rank band of 801-1000 overall, and the score obtained overall was 29.8-33.9. For Research the score obtained was 16.6, and for Citations 72.1. For teaching it received a score of 17.0, and for Industry Income the score was 39.2. The 2023 Times Higher Education ranking provided a score of 14.9 to NIT Hamirpur for International Outlook.

The placement department is in charge of conducting the placements on campus. The cell invites companies to participate in the NIT Hamirpur placement process. The highest package offered at NIT Hamirpur for the year 2023-24 stood at 58 LPA while the average package stood at17.69 LPA in BTech CSE program. Over 81.18% of students secured placements whereas in the session 2022-23, the CSE department secured a maximum CTC of Rs 1.73 CPA, followed by the Chemical Engineering department, which secured a maximum CTC of Rs 52 LPA. Source of funding: Ministry of Social Justice, Government of India, New Delhi.

Scholarship Amount/Value: Full fee concession + boarding and accommodation at Rs 2220 per month + Rs 3000 per annum for books and stationery + Rs 45,000 for computers and accessories (provided in the scheme).

Eligibility Criteria: 12 meritorious SC category students whose total family income does not exceed Rs 4,50,000.

Scholarship 2

Scholarship name: Merit-Cum-Means Scholarships for students from underrepresented groups, such as minorities (Muslim, Sikh, Christian, Buddhist and Parsi).

Source of funding: Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India, New Delhi.

Scholarship Amount/Value: Keep your allowance Day Rs 5000 per annum/Scholar Rs 10,000 per annum/ Hostler Rs 20,000 per annum for the course Rs 20,000 per annum or as updated by the MoMA from time to time, whichever is less.

Eligibility Criteria: Muslim, Sikh, Christian, Buddhist, and Parsi) categories deserving students with a 50% or comparable grade in their previous final examination and a family annual income of Rs 2,50,000 from all sources.

B.Tech

• Candidates are chosen for the NIT Hamirpur B.Tech course depending on their JEE Main result. 
• The JoSAA oversees and regulates the centralised counselling procedure via which candidates are assigned seats. 
• The college cutoff and candidates' preferences for courses and colleges are used to determine seat allocation. 
• The online registration and choice filling for JoSAA usually start in the third week of June. 
• CSAB Counselling manages the seat allotment process for the remaining unfilled seats. Foreign nationals and NRI candidates, on the other hand, must attend DASA Counseling.
• Applicants must have passed Class 12 from a recognised board in the Science stream with at least five subjects and a minimum of 75% aggregate (65% for reserved category candidates) or be in the top 20 percentile in their respective boards' Class 12 examinations.

M.Tech

• Eligible candidates must have a valid GATE score to be admitted to NIT Hamirpur. 
• The CCMT Counseling method is then used to allocate seats in three rounds. If there are any open seats, they are filled through two rounds of National Spot Round (NSR) Counseling.
• The candidate should have passed a four-year B.Pharm or B.E/ B.Tech degree, an equivalent bachelor's degree in Engineering and Technology after Class 12, or a three-year B.Sc/ Diploma degree in Engineering and Technology. Candidates who have taken or will take their graduation examinations in the year are also eligible to apply.
• A written test and a personal interview are required for admission to the NIT Hamirpur M.Tech course.

B.Tech-M.Tech (Dual Degree) 

• Admission to the B.Tech-M.Tech (Dual Degree) program is based on the JEE Main score, which JoSAA Counseling follows.
• To get admission into Computer Science and Engineering and Electronics and Communication Engineering candidate should fulfil the following eligibility criteria: Passed Class 12 with at least five courses and a 75% aggregate from a recognised board in the Science stream (65% for reserved category candidates) Alternatively, candidates must be in the top 20% of their class, as determined by the individual boards.
• The JEE Main Paper-II score determines admission to NIT Hamirpur's B.Arch program. Through seven rounds of counselling, eligible applicants must qualify for course and college-specific cut-off ranks provided by JoSAA. 
• To enrol in Computer Science and Engineering and Electronics and Communication Engineering, the candidate should have Passed Class 12 with at least five courses and a 75% aggregate from a recognised board in the Science stream (65% for reserved category candidates). 
• Alternatively, candidates must be in the top 20% of their class, as determined by the individual boards.

M.Sc

• Candidates who wish to apply for admission must take the IIT JAM, an all-India online entrance exam. Additionally, the shortlisted individuals are assigned seats in three rounds and two special rounds of CCMN Counselling.
• A bachelor's degree from a recognised institute/university with a minimum of 55% aggregate (50% for SC/ ST/ PwD category applicants) is required for physics, chemistry, and computing. 
• Candidates who have taken or will take their graduation examinations in the year are also eligible to apply.

M.Arch

• Candidates should have passed a recognised institute/five-year university's B.Arch/Naval Architecture/ four-year B.Plan degree. Candidates who have taken or will take their graduation examinations in the year are also eligible to apply.
• A written test and a personal interview are required for admission to the M.Arch (self-sponsored) program.

MBA

• A bachelor's/professional degree from a recognised institution/university with a minimum of 50% aggregate or equivalent CGPA (45% for SC/ ST/ PwD candidates).
• Candidates in their final year of a bachelor's degree/equivalent qualification or waiting for their results are also eligible to apply.

PhD

• Admission to the NIT Hamirpur PhD course is based on the candidates' academic merits and the reputation of the institute/ university where they previously finished their previous degree/ test. Candidates must also have a valid UGC NET/ CSIR NET/ GATE score to be considered for the shortlisting process.
• Shortlisted candidates are invited to a presentation round, followed by a PI round for final selection. The presentation phase is based on the candidates' planned research work's relevant topic/subject.
