 NIT Puducherry admission 2025 is ongoing. For BTech admission, JEE Main 2025 has already been conducted and JoSAA counselling is currently ongoing, round 1 and 2 have already been conducted and round 3 results are to be declared on July 4, 2025. JEE Mains 2026 applications will start from November 2025, and the 1st session will be conducted in January 2026. The admission process for NIT Puducherry starts around the month of April. The important dates related to NIT Puducherry admission have been listed below:

The NIT Puducherry offers four-year-long undergraduate degree courses (B.Tech) in Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, and 2 year-long postgraduate courses (M.Tech) in Computer Science and Engineering, Power Electronics, Communication Systems, and Design Engineering. NIT Puducherry also awards doctoral degrees to aspiring candidates in Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, and English.

NIT Puducherry admissions to B.Tech courses are through JEE (Mains) conducted by the National Testing Agency. It is a very competitive field to excel, and the desired candidates must pass through the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) counselling before successful admission. For admissions to M.Tech courses, one must score a good percentile in the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). The GATE exam is jointly conducted by the Indian Institute of Science and the Indian Institutes of Technologies of Roorkee, Kharagpur, Delhi, Chennai, Guwahati, Kanpur, and Mumbai under the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India. The final admission is through the Centralized Counseling for M.Tech (CCMT) scheme. NITPY also gives international and NRI students a chance through the Direct Admission for Students Abroad (DASA) scheme.

The institute follows a reservation policy, where 27% of the seats are reserved for Other Backward Classes (OBCs), 10 % for the economically poor sections, 15% for Scheduled castes (SCs) and 7.5 % for the Scheduled castes (SCs), as announced by the Supreme Court of India. Also, for the undergraduate courses, 50% of the seats are allocated to students who are the residents or natives of the Union Territory of Puducherry (including Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe, and Yanam) and Andaman and Nicobar Islands. It also offers scholarship programmes to enrol PhD needy students in undergraduate courses. These scholarships are looked into by the MHRD cell, Government of India.

NIT Puducherry Application Process 2025

For entry into B.Tech and M.Tech courses, one needs to register at the JoSAA and CCMT counselling portals, respectively. Here is a stepwise guide to help register. 

1. Visit the official website of NIT Puducherry and go to the admissions section.
2. One can choose from the options of B.Tech, MTech, and PhD.
3. Click on the appropriate option, and the candidate will be directed to the respective page.
4. To start with the B.Tech application at the JoSAA site, log in with the JEE Mains application number.
5. After filling in the details for the M.Tech application at the CCMT site, a registration fee of Rs 2,200 (for reserved candidates, it is Rs 1,700) needs to be paid. 
6. After filling up the application forms, it needs to be submitted online after agreeing to lock the choices made with the relevant scanned documents.
7. A printout of the submission form should be taken, which will be required later.

For applying to the PhD courses

1. The candidate requires visiting the official website of the Institute and click on the ‘Admissions’ button.
2. After choosing the appropriate program, the admission form can be downloaded with the payment of a nominal application fee.
3. Once payment is complete, the form can be submitted along with the necessary copies of the documents.
4. A printout of the filled-in form and the essential documents should also reach the Dean, NIT, and Puducherry office.

NIT Puducherry Counselling Process 2025

Candidates who have cleared the JEE Mains for admission in the B.Tech courses are put through a counselling process. The qualified students are supposed to visit the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) website for a complete counselling programme. Here are the steps for registering for the JoSAA counselling programme.

• Go to the official JoSAA website and click on the registration button.
• To log in, use the JEE Main application number
• Check that the profile that is been displayed is correct or not
• Click on the option called ‘Submit changes’
• Next, based on the list of options available, fill up the places for preferred colleges and their specializations
• After making all the appropriate choices, click on the ‘I agree to lock my choices’ option to confirm your selections
• Once the process is complete, a printout of the complete application form must be taken for future reference and use.

Candidates who wish to pursue M.Tech in this Institute must go through a CCMT counselling process. To apply for the CCMT counselling process after a valid GATE score, one needs to

• Register at the official website of CCMT and fill up the application form given
• A registration fee of Rs 2,200 (Rs 1,700 for reserved categories) needs to be paid before proceeding
• After entering all the necessary details, click on the ‘I agree’ option to lock all the inputs given by you
• Apply and before checking out, keep a printout of the form for future reference.
