M.Sc. Merit-Cum-Means Scholarship

  • M.Sc. students will be eligible to receive Merit-Cum-Means Scholarship from the first semester based on All India Rank in JAM-2017.

  • Scholarship will be renewed every semester based on satisfactory performance in the academic programme.

  • Scholarship is applicable to top 25% of the students in the MSc programme and gross annual family income less than Rs.6.0 lakhs.

Merit-cum-Means Scholarship

IIT Ropar offers Merit-cum-Means scholarship to about 25% of the students. The recipients of the scholarship are exempted from paying the tuition fee and get a scholarship of Rs.1000/- per month. The criteria for the same are based on the ALL INDIA RANK (AIR) in the JEE and Means (only those students are eligible, whose parental income is below Rs.4.5 lac per annum). Further as per IIT rules, there is a limit that the total scholarship received from all sources for a student should not exceed Rs.50,000/- per annum. IIT Ropar also provides Institute Free Studentship to 10% of the students on the basis of means only. The recipients of the free studentship are exempted from paying the tuition fee. The criterion of 10% free studentship is similar to that of MCM Scholarship. Also all SC and ST category students are given full tuition fee waiver irrespective of their parent’s/ guardian’s income. Besides these, the institute also offers merit prizes and certificates to the top 7% of the students of each 4-year B. Tech program for 1st and 2nd Semester. The value of the merit prize is Rs.2500/-. Many other organizations in India and Abroad also offer some assistance to the students of IIT Ropar.

Merit Scholarship 2017

IIT Ropar scholarships allow students to get their tuition fees waived off and continue studying their desired courses.  IIT Ropar offers 7 scholarships for candidates of different categories. Explained below are the details of each of these offered scholarships.

Institute Merit cum Means Scholarship 

These are scholarships that are given to candidates on the basis of their academic excellence and their financial background. The academic excellence for the interested candidates must include the All India Rank (AIR) secured in the JEE Advanced and/or JEE Main entrances. Another important inclusion is the financial background which denotes that the annual income of the candidates’ family must be less than 4.5 lakh per annum. The candidates who will successfully qualify will become eligible for the Indian Institute of Technology, Ropar Scholarships. The scholarship amount is Rs 1000 per month with a complete tuition fee waiver of the selected candidates. It is to note that only 25% of the total number of students taking admission will be awarded this scholarship. The IIT Ropar Merit cum Means Scholarships will be available at the time of admission for the eligible candidates.

Candidates must also know that the scholarships are to be renewed every year for which the candidates need to meet the eligibility criteria. These criteria include a CGPA of 6.0 or more, SGPA not less than 6.0 in the previous semester and earned credits not less than 20 times the number of semesters registered for.  

Institute Free Studentship

This Scholarship will be awarded to only 10% of students of the total number of students in one particular semester of IIT Ropar. The IIT Ropar Free Studentship scholarship will be awarded to the students only on the terms of means or help for financial constraints. Selected students will be exempted from paying the tuition fee. It is to note that the students selected for this scholarship must satisfy the eligibility norms prescribed for the Merit cum Means Scholarships, only then they will be able to qualify for this studentship scholarship. Even for the continuation of this scholarship, the students will have to satisfy the same terms as it was for the continuation of Merit cum Means Scholarships.

Scholarship for SC/ST Students

This scholarship will be applicable for all SC & ST category students irrespective of their parents’ or guardians’ financial condition. The provisions provided under this category include Rs 300 per month scholarship with exemption from paying the room rent of the hostel. It also allows students to opt for free mess facilities (basic menu) with Rs 250 as a monthly pocket allowance in lieu of the amount of the scholarship. Students who somehow fail in the semester examinations will be given a chance of claiming the scholarship by renewing the scholarship subject to a maximum limit of 5 years. It is a must for the interested students to know that the norms prescribed under this scholarship will be subject to the norms prescribed by the Government of India.

Post Matric Scholarship

The State Government offers SC & ST candidates a chance to opt for this scholarship. The eligibility will be defined by the State Government. Candidates are advised to check the official website of the respective State Government for more details and eligibility criteria.

Top Class Education Scholarship for the SC / ST Students

Scholarship for B.Tech and M.Tech Dual Degree

Students belonging to the B.Tech and M.Tech dual-degree programme who have good academic performance are given a scholarship in the final year, which is at par with the scholarship given to the students of M.Tech. Programmes.

Other Scholarships

There are a number of other scholarships available for the candidates by the NGOs of the region or the state from where the candidates belong. Few scholarships are also given by external agencies to a specified group of students.

Hi,

JAM exams scores are considered for admission to the IIT Ropar M.Tech programme. The cut off is the minimum score a student shall score to get admission in IIT Ropar. It is mandatory for every candidate to take the IIT JAM entrance exam and then meet the requirement of IIT Ropar cut off list, based on which the final selections will be done. Three specialisations are available to M.Sc. candidates: physics, chemistry, and mathematics. The IIT JAM 2023 cut off marks were announced by IIT Guwahati. The cut off marks for 2023 for general category candidates are given below:

M.Sc Physics: 521.

M.Sc Chemistry: 526.

M.Sc Mathematics: 408.

Hello Arya,

The JEE Main 2023 exam results are taken into consideration for admission to the B.Tech programmes at the Indian Institute of Technology Ropar. The JEE Advanced Result 2023 release date is June 18, 2023. It will be released by IIT Guwahati on the official website (jeeadv.ac.in). To view their results, candidates must log in using their login credentials (registration ID and password).  For the JEE Advanced 2023 exam, 80+ points are regarded as good, whereas the minimum passing criteria is 70 marks. The JEE Advanced exam will only be available to the top 2,50,000 JEE Main exam takers. To check the IIT JEE result 2023 candidates can follow the procedure below:

  • Go to jeeadv.ac.in, the official website.
  • Select the 'IIT JEE Advanced Result Link' link.
  • Your Roll number, birthdate, and phone number should be entered in the corresponding fields.
  • The "I'm not a robot" checkbox should be selected.
  • When you click the "Submit" button, the JEE Advanced Result 2023 will be shown on the screen.
  • Take a printout of the result by downloading it for future use.
