Shivaji College functions under the trusteeship of the Government of Delhi. It was established in the year 1961 by the Union Minister for Agriculture at the time, Dr. PanjabRao Deshmukh. Shivaji College, Delhi has been accreditated with Grade ‘A’ By NAAC. The college has also been one of the top 10 science colleges in India in a survey conducted by India Today in 2017.
The college is located in one of the bustling areas of the city and is located near two metro stations which will make the commute for many of the students pretty easy. Even though the college is situated in a bustling area, the environment inside the campus is beautiful and serene, with rows of trees and many gardens surrounding the college. For the purposes of academic, physical education and sports activities/events, the college also has facilities of both indoor and outdoor games. Among other facilities, Shivaji college has a photocopy shop, banking and medical services, and canteens and kiosks for various kinds of snacks and beverages.
Shivaji College has the provision of 20 undergraduate courses for the students to choose from. You can find courses ranging from Sciences, Commerce, and Arts. Shivaji College also provides the students with three masters courses as well. The admissions to the college are based on the merit of the student as well as the cut-off list brought out by the college. There are concessions for SC/ST/PwD/CW/KM/OBCs and women regarding the cut-offs. As per the guidelines of Delhi University, the college also provides reservation in terms of the seats as well.
Along with academics, Shivaji college also provides room for students to develop their extracurricular skills. Shivaji College has its own NSS and NCC clubs as well, which allows the students to become proactive members of the society and also become better human beings with social responsibilities. There are a couple of societies that focus on the cultural and societal development factor, like the eco-club and the women empowerment cell. There are societies that help students in exploring their talents and interests. There are clubs such as photography, film, fashion society, etc. There course-based societies as well for all the students who want to increase their knowledge in their respective subjects. The college also has a couple of society that have been made specifically for the development of the students.
Shivaji College believes in being eco-friendly, therefore, the college has various clubs and services to promote an eco-friendly lifestyle. To promote such a lifestyle, the campus has many facilities to distinguish between the various kinds of waste that are produced inside the campus, collects them and gets rid of them in an eco-friendly manner, depending upon the type of waste there are. The college also focuses on disposing of sanitary waste, and to combat this situation the college has provided sanitary waste incinerators in all of the washrooms for females so as to keep the place clean and hygienic.
