The School of Planning and Architecture (SPA) began as a Department of Architecture at Delhi Polytechnic in 1941. It was later integrated with the School of Town and Country Planning, established in 1955 by the Government of India. Affiliated to Delhi University (DU), SPA Delhi achieved the status of ‘Deemed to be a University’ by the Government of India, through the Ministry of Education and Culture in 1979. SPA Delhi was recognised as "An Institute of National Importance under an Act of Parliament" in 2015.
SPA Delhi courses are offered at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels in the fields of architecture, design, planning and management. Admission to these courses is done both based on merit and entrance exam marks. The entrance exams accepted are JEE Main, CEED and UGC NET. The SPA Delhi fee structure ranges from Rs 88,000 to Rs 1.6 lakh approximately. The institute has a dedicated placement cell which is responsible for conducting the recruitment drive.
