History, Affiliations and Ranking

The University of Kent (University of Kent at Canterbury, UKC) was established in 1965 and recognized as Beloff’s Plate Glass University (this refers to a group of universities which were promoted to university status in 1960). It is affiliated to UK Santander Network EUA, ACU Eastern ARC Universities at Medway. According to QS World ranking Kent stands at 46th in the UK and 366th in the world; however,  the Times Higher Education ranks it at 44th in the UK and 301-350th in the world.

Infrastructure, Campus, Courses 

The university’s main campus is at Canterbury and is spread over 300 acres. It has campuses in Medway and Ton Bridge in Kent named after distinguished scholars namely Eliot, Rutherford, Keynes, Darwin, Medway, Woolf & Turing. It also has postgraduates centers in Brussels, Athens and Paris. The campus ground gives an inviting and affectionate student community. The campus also has the Templeman Library, the Gulbenkian arts center, the Mandela building spread in serene green open spaces. It has over 150 clubs and societies covering academic, professional, social and special interests. The university is primarily divided into three faculties which are further divided into 20 schools; Humanities which includes Architecture, Arts, English, History, Music and Fine Art, Science which has Bioscience, Computing, Engineering and Digital Arts, Mathematics, Statistics, Medway and Physical sciences and Sports, Social Sciences which includes Anthropology, Conservation, Business, Economics, Law, Politics, Psychology and Sociology.

Achievements & Alumni

This University boasts on promoting and achieving sustainability on its campuses. The team based in Estates Department leads this commitment. Also, the UK Government’s Excellence Framework Gold Award has been awarded to the university for its excellence. The Shanghai Ranking places Kent in the top 500 world universities. Some of the notable alumni from this university are Farah Zeynep Abdullah, Emilia Bechrakis, mark Drakeford, Gavin Esler, Kazuo Ishiguro, Orlando Bloom, Emily Thornberry and Paul Telfer.

The University of Kent has always welcomed international students from 158 nationalities and 41% percent of the students are from outside the UK.
