History, Affiliation and Rankings

The University of Hamburg was established in 1919 in the beautiful city of Hamburg. It is the largest university of northern Germany and has world-class research facilities for students pursuing degrees in the field of Arts, Commerce and Science. The university has more than 170 courses to offer at the undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral and diploma level. The faculty and administration of the university encourage young scientists to experiment and research on the latest technologies. The University of Hamburg is at number 223 in the QS World Ranking, which makes it a part of the world's top 1% educational institutions. 

Infrastructure, Campus and Courses

Every year, about 7,000 students enrol in the bachelor courses and about 4,000 in the doctoral courses. The University has 7 departments, which are segregated on the basis of various streams and specialisations - Faculty of Law, Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences, Faculty of Medicinal Sciences, Faculty of Education, Psychology and Human Movement, Faculty of Humanities, Faculty of Mathematics, Computer Science and Natural Sciences and Faculty of Engineering. A large number of courses offered by the university are in German. But there are some courses available in English as well. Students who are comfortable with German will, however, have an upper hand while studying at the University of Hamburg. 

The University of Hamburg campus offers a plethora of recreational opportunities for the students. Within the university campus itself the students have access to fitness centre, sports courts, auditoriums etc which builds the overall personality of the students. Skill development programmes are also offered to the students in the University of Hamburg campus. 

Accomplishments and Alumni

The University of Hamburg alumni are the living interface between the graduates and the university. The University of Hamburg alumni list is long and studded with the names of famous and renowned people like Hans Adolf Krebs, Helmut Schimdt, Leo Strauss, Ralf Dahrendorf, August-Wilhelm Scheer etc who have made a name for themselves in their resective fields. 

Among many other things, the University of Hamburg have achieved many things in its lifetime. Most recently, the Joint Science Conference in Bonn, the German Council of Science and Humanities Wissenschaftsrat and the German Research Foundation jointly announced 04 clusters of excellence has been granted to the Unversity of Hamburg. All the 4 cluster applications of a University been awarded excellence status - an unmatched success story for the University.

The University of Hamburg attracts lakhs of applicants from all over the world for all of its Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral programmes. Out of the total number of students who enroll themselves for various programmes offered at the University of Hamburg, a good chunk belongs to different nations. The male female ratio at the University of is 44:56 % including the 13% international students.
