The first convocation ceremony of the English and Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad took place on April 26, 2017. Shri. Pranab Mukherjee, President of India was the Chief Guest of the convocation ceremony where he addressed the students.
Expressing his ideas about the path of learning, Shri. Pranab Mukherjee was of the opinion that it is the knowledge that plays an important role in paving the path of life and one must always remember that learning is eternal and there is no end to it. The seeds of knowledge flourished and sprouted in the places wherever Buddha travelled. Asia and South East Asia have brought a significant change by bringing up novel paths of learning, he added.

Speaking about the growth of EFLU, President expressed his satisfaction over the fact that the varsity has been successful in meeting the challenges in language education and preparing the students for leadership in a complex world. The research profile of EFLU has been expanding and the varsity has the capability of re-orienting higher education in the country. He suggested the university develop educational packages right from the school to the university level.

The President of India further pointed that Hyderabad is a city of creative minds, artists, painters and poets. He termed the Hyderabad city as a ‘smaller India in itself’ as it has diverse languages, cultures, crafts and cuisine of its own. The city has a great history as well as renowned educational institutions.
He appreciated the University for its outreach programmes and acknowledged the eminent role of the varsity in teacher training and education.
