The Odisha Health Minister Naba Kishore Das has announced that the previous commitment of the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik of setting up a Health University, will need more time than expected. He states that is it is not feasible for the state government to make such a decision.

Four years after Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had made an announcement on June 2015, of setting up a Health University. However, Health Minister Naba Kishore Das had stated that it is currently difficult to bring about a bill for the setup of a Health University.
As per the announcement that had been made by the Chief Minister, Naveen Patnaik in 2015, the state government was going to establish a Health University which will act as a key factor in streamlining the education system in the stream of medical. However, the announcement of the Health University is yet to see the light of day.
The Health Minister, Naba Kishore Das, has provided a written reply, that the state government is currently considering all the options to set up a Health University. He also added that various medical educational institutions such as medical, nursing, paramedical as well as pharmacy educational institutions will come together under the parameters of the University.

As of now, there have been 7 different medical colleges that are state-run. These state-run medical institutions include MKCG Medical College and Hospital , SLN Medical College and Hospital, Govt. Medical College, SCB Medical College and Hospital , Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College, etc.

However, opposing parties have lost no opportunities to criticise the situation and the announcement that had been made by the Biju Janata Dal Party President. Jeypore Congress MLA, Tara Prasad Bahinipati has raised a question, doubting the statements made by the Minister.
