Founded in 1961, the University of Twente is a public technical university situated in Enschede, the Netherlands. It was initially founded as a polytechnic institute and later in 1986 acquired the university status, offering a wide range of courses. The University of Twente is one of the best universities in the world for higher education and has been ranked 197 in the QS World University Rankings 2021. The Faculty of Geo-information Sciences and Earth Observation (ITC) is a part of the University of Twente and is recognised worldwide for its achievements in research, development and teaching programmes.

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

The beautiful campus of the University of Twente is spread out over an area of 146 hectares and provides the perfect ambience for quality learning and personality growth of students. COVID- 19 Response

Taking into consideration the health and safety of the students, staff and faculty at the University, an appropriate COVID-19 response has been released by the University of Twente. The University has implemented many different regulations and guidelines to ensure that the spread of the virus is minimum.

  • The University of Twente is offering the teaching programmes in a blended format with a maximum of 40% of classes being held face to face. The classes that do not require practical learning and in-person interactions are shifted to online mode. 

  • The buildings of the campus are mostly closed and services have been halted for the time being. However, a small section of Spiegel building is functioning for the emergency use of students who cannot study at home.

  • The university has designed the Covid-19 notification App ‘CoronaMelder’ to recognise people who have been in close contact with people with positive COVID- 19 and the members of the university are encouraged to use it.

  • Wearing a face mask is mandatory within the university campus.

  • The campus infrastructure has been rearranged for everyone to maintain social distancing.

  • Everyone is encouraged to maintain personal hygiene, use sanitisers and regularly update their health conditions for the safety of every member.

The University of Twente Scholarship (UTS)

The University of Twente Scholarship (UTS) is a scholarship that is available for all students belonging to EU/ EEA or non- EU/ EEA countries and enrolled in a graduate programme (M.Sc) at the University of Twente. It is a great opportunity for students who have an excellent academic background to get enrolled in research honours, design honours, or change leaders programmes with a scholarship. A maximum of 650 scholarships is awarded under this category to deserving students.

University Twente Scholarship (UTS) Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria to be considered for the scholarship.

  • Must be enrolled in a UT Master programme starting in September of the academic year 2021/2022.

  • Must have a student number received from the university.

  • Must not have completed an undergraduate programme from UT.

  • Must meet the conditions to receive entry visa in the Netherlands 

  • Must meet the English language test requirements, i.e. IELTS Academic 6.5/ TOEFL iBT 90 and an additional IELTS: 6.0/ TOEFL iBT: 20 in the speaking section is required.

  • Must have an excellent academic background.

Value: € 3,000 - € 22,000 for one year.

For two years of the study programme, students will receive an additional UT Scholarship amount equal to that in the first year to cover the expenses of the second year. Students must meet the necessary requirements for the UT Scholarship to receive the scholarship in the second year. 

Application Process 

The candidate must first apply for a Master’s degree programme at the University of Twente. Once the admission letter is received, they can apply for a scholarship using their unique student’s registration number. The application form will be available on the official website of the University of Twente.

Note: The University Twente Scholarship (UTS) is not available for Master's programmes offered by the Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC).
