  • Constable/ASI/SI/Inspector: These are those police personnel who are often seen at the ground level. You can find constables performing patrolling duties and station duties as well, and inspectors usually head entire police stations or areas assigned to them.
  • DSP/ASP : With posts like DSP and ASP, one can see them performing tasks of overseeing local police administration. In case of any emergency, they also take the lead and look after the complete administration.
  • SP/SSP : The Superintendent of Police takes charge of the entire district, and they ensure law and order. While SSPs take charge of law and order across key urban or sensitive districts.
  • DIG/IG/ADG: These are senior-most police officers in UP Police, and they manage policing for entire regions or zones such as the north zone, south zone, etc, within UP. They are also responsible for coordinating major operations and keeping a check on the functioning and administration of the district police.
  • DGP : DGP is the seniormost police personal rank in Uttar Pradesh. As the top cop, the DGP is responsible for all major and strategic/control decisions affecting the state’s vast police force
