Admission to various courses at the National Institute of Technology, Shillong, is based on an entrance test relevant to the course applied or selected by the candidate. The exam accepted for the BTech course is JEE Main, followed by JoSAA counselling. The exam accepted for M.Tech is GATE, followed by CCMT counselling. The exam accepted for MSc. course is GATE, followed by CCMN counselling. Shortlisting candidates for a PhD is done based on the candidate's performance in written tests and interviews.
