Eighteen students from Chandigarh University have been recognised as NASA Citizen Scientists after successfully participating in the International Asteroid Search Campaign, a global citizen-science initiative conducted in partnership with NASA. The campaign was held from October 15 to November 10, 2025, during which students analysed real telescope image datasets to identify near-Earth objects and Main Belt asteroids using professional astronomical tools and research methods.
A total of 26 students from the university’s Astronomy Club took part in the programme in three research teams, with two teams comprising 18 students receiving official certification and recognition. During the campaign, participants worked with telescope datasets accessed through the campaign portal and used blink comparison image-analysis techniques to detect moving celestial objects. Their observations were compiled into standardised reports and submitted to the Minor Planet Center for validation as part of ongoing global asteroid-monitoring efforts. The recognition places the participating students within an international network of citizen scientists supporting astronomical observation and planetary monitoring, reflecting the institution’s continued engagement with research-driven and experiential education.
Chandigarh University- 155 of its students have received job offers from LTIMindtree during the latest placement drive. Chandigarh University has launched India’s first ‘AI Fest 2026’, a three-day mega innovation event to be held from February 19 to 21 on the sidelines of the ‘India AI Impact Summit 2026’ in New Delhi. The fest aims to empower young innovators and help them convert their ideas into real-world, AI-driven solutions for Viksit Bharat.
AI Fest 2026 will feature three main platforms – CU InnovFest 2026, Campus Tank and Sandbox. It is designed as a national platform for AI startups, students, and entrepreneurs to get mentorship, industry exposure, funding opportunities and incubation support.
The launch was done in the presence of Umar Ali Shaikh, CEO, Atos Solutions & Systems Pvt Ltd and Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), and Satnam Singh Sandhu, Chancellor, Chandigarh University. The official mascot “InnovBot” and the AI Fest 2026 website were also unveiled. Registrations are now open.
The fest will host over 35 competitions with participation from more than 1,000 teams and a total prize pool of over Rs 1 crore. Participants will also get opportunities to earn global certifications from SAS.
Campus Tank will hold its national finale on February 21, where the top 10 startups will pitch for funding from a pool of $6 million. Sandbox, organized by CU’s Technology Business Incubator, will showcase innovative products and ideas, and support selected teams in forming a Deep-Tech and AI-based cohort.

Chandigarh University, in collaboration with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and the Ministry of External Affairs, organized the India International Dance and Music Festival 2026 - One World, Many Cultures. The two-day international festival began with a grand opening that featured more than 350 artists from 33 countries, celebrating global culture, art, and traditions.
On the opening day, artists dressed in colorful traditional costumes presented music and dance forms from their native countries. A cultural procession was organized on the university campus where all international troupes participated, showcasing unity in diversity and the richness of global traditions.
Major performances were presented by cultural troupes from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Maldives, Lithuania, Uzbekistan, and Burkina Faso. Artists from several other countries such as Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Sudan, Tanzania, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Lesotho, Myanmar, Yemen, Sri Lanka, Angola, Malawi, Cameroon, Syria, Zimbabwe, South Sudan, Congo, Thailand, Uganda, Mali, Namibia, Kenya, Somalia, Ghana, and Madagascar also performed and impressed the audience with their traditional art forms.
The opening performance featured the Lakshminarayana Global Music Festival group, led by Dr. L. Subramaniam and Kavita Krishnamurthy Subramaniam. The 80-member group included the Astana Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, the Chamber Choir of the Aktobe Regional Philharmonic, and the dance ensemble ‘Gakku’ from Kazakhstan. The ‘Gakku’ group presented fast-paced and traditional ballet-style dances that highlighted Kazakhstan’s history, the bravery of its horsemen, and the beauty of its open landscapes.
The audience was also captivated by performances from the Folklore Ensemble ‘Aalam’ and Dance Group ‘Ademi’ from the Osh Regional Philharmonic, Kyrgyz Republic. ‘Aalam’ means “World” or “Universe” in the Kyrgyz language. Their performance portrayed Kyrgyz folk stories, nomadic traditions, and the courage of horsemen through energetic movements and vibrant choreography.
Adding to the cultural diversity, a 17-member troupe from the Sutra Foundation, Malaysia, presented a dance piece titled ‘Radhe-Radhe: The Sweet Surrender’. The performance was inspired by Indian devotional traditions and focused on the love and devotion associated with Lord Krishna and Radha. It reflected harmony, devotion, and cultural connection between India and Malaysia.
Performances by artists from Maldives, Lithuania, Uzbekistan, and Burkina Faso further enriched the festival by presenting their country’s traditional dance and music forms. Each performance highlighted unique cultural stories, rhythms, and artistic styles. The festival successfully brought together nations on one stage, celebrating the idea of “One World, Many Cultures.”

The management division of the university continues to shine as well, ranking 32nd nationally among India’s leading business schools. Pharmacy education at Chandigarh University has witnessed significant progress, with the institution advancing from the 20th rank in 2024 to the 15th position this year. Similarly, the university’s Architecture and Planning division secured the 14th rank, reflecting its innovative and design-driven approach. Union Minister of Power, Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal Khattar on Tuesday launched Campus Tank Punjab, an initiative aimed at providing young entrepreneurs with seed funding and investment opportunities to strengthen India’s startup ecosystem. The programme, organised by Chandigarh University in collaboration with talent hiring platform Apna and early-stage investor Venture Catalysts (VCats), offers a dedicated funding pool of USD 6 million to support innovators below 30 years of age. The initiative seeks to transform student startup ideas into high-impact ventures, with funding support for up to 300 shortlisted student-led startups.
The event witnessed participation from key dignitaries including Satnam Singh Sandhu, Rajya Sabha MP and Chancellor of Chandigarh University, Deepinder Singh Sandhu, Senior MD at Chandigarh University, Dr Preet Deep Singh, VP of Apna; Vansh Oberoi, CIO of VCats, and government officials from Punjab’s startup ecosystem. Industry leaders, venture capitalists, academicians, and young innovators from across Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, J&K, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh also attended. Speaking at the launch, Khattar hailed Campus Tank as a game-changer for student entrepreneurship. “This is a big achievement not just in India but globally. Many youngsters struggle to start ventures due to lack of opportunities, but this initiative will directly benefit students from over 23,000 AICTE-affiliated institutions. Already 19,000 student startups have registered to avail the benefits,” he said.
Highlighting India’s growing startup ecosystem, Khattar noted that the country has 1.76 lakh registered startups, including 75,000 women-led ventures and over 115 unicorns. He emphasized that startups are central to India achieving the goal of becoming a USD 5 trillion economy in the next two years and a developed nation by 2047. Satnam Singh Sandhu praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, recalling how India has grown from just 400 startups in 2014 to one of the world’s largest startup hubs today. “India has created 17.6 lakh direct jobs through startups and aims to foster over 1,000 unicorns by 2035,” he said, adding that Campus Tank Punjab would serve as a “catalytic platform to ignite entrepreneurial spirit” among the youth.
Chandigarh University has already made a mark in this space, with students developing over 150 startups since 2012. Its Technology Business Incubator (CU-TBI) has filed more than 2,500 patents in the past three years, securing a top ranking among Indian institutions for intellectual property filings.
Industry representatives also highlighted the initiative’s long-term potential. Vansh Oberoi of VCats said startups could contribute up to 20% of India’s projected USD 7 trillion economy, while Preet Deep Singh of Apna stressed that the program seeks to nurture “unconventional innovators exploring new solutions for society’s pressing problems.

These rankings are among the most respected in the world and evaluate universities based on their performance in different academic areas. They help students, teachers, and decision-makers understand how universities are doing around the globe. In the latest rankings, CU has made a big leap by moving up 125 spots and now stands at 575 in the overall global list. This places the university among the top 2% of universities worldwide. CU has also been ranked 16th among all universities in India. This improvement shows how hard the university is working to improve the quality of education and its global reputation.
CU has done especially well in several important areas. In the category of employer reputation, which shows how much companies value CU graduates, the university has been ranked 146th in the world. Chandigarh University inaugurated the first edition of its CU Scholars’ Summit 2025, celebrating the academic excellence of 2,516 toppers from its national-level entrance exam, CUCET 2025. These students were awarded scholarships ranging from 100% across 110 undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, reinforcing the university’s commitment to accessible and quality education. The three-day event was inaugurated by Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria, who praised the university for its scholarship initiative and its role in nation-building. He emphasised that if India is to become a Viksit Bharat by 2047, institutions like Chandigarh University will play a pivotal role. He also highlighted that Rs 210 crore worth of scholarships are disbursed annually, significantly reducing dropout rates among deserving students.
Among the awardees were 918 meritorious girls from 20 states, showcasing the university's efforts in promoting gender equity in education. Kataria also acknowledged CU’s contribution to reversing brain drain by offering world-class facilities that encourage students to stay in India for higher studies. Chancellor Satnam Singh Sandhu stressed that the university aims to nurture talent in academics, sports, research, and culture. He noted that over 4,300 patents have been filed by CU students and faculty, reflecting the institution’s focus on innovation in alignment with India’s digital and entrepreneurial goals. Chandigarh University, ranked India’s No. 1 private university, has ended academic ties with 23 universities in Turkey and Azerbaijan following their support for Pakistan during Operation Sindoor. Chancellor and Rajya Sabha MP Satnam Singh Sandhu announced the decision, citing national interest and security. “Our vision has always been ‘Nation First.’ We will not associate with institutions from countries that support terrorism or undermine India’s sovereignty,” he stated.
The university had active MoUs with these institutions for student and faculty exchanges, and research collaboration. Sandhu urged Indian students to avoid studying in Turkish and Azerbaijani universities and instead choose institutions in India-friendly nations. “Turkey and Azerbaijan have aligned with Pakistan, disregarding India's goodwill and support. Their actions deeply offend the sentiments of 140 crore Indians,” he said.
This move follows open support by Turkey and Azerbaijan for Pakistan after India’s retaliatory strikes on terror infrastructure following the Pahalgam terror attack. Turkey also backed Pakistan’s call for an international probe and has supplied military equipment to Islamabad. Sandhu affirmed the university’s commitment to national unity, stating, “We cannot remain neutral when our soldiers are fighting to protect the country.”
Chandigarh University kicked off the first-ever North India Incubators & Capital Summit (NIICS) 2025, a two-day event aimed at strengthening the startup and investment ecosystem across eight North Indian states. Chandigarh University has clinched the Overall Champion title at the 38th AIU Inter-University National Youth Festival. The university’s students delivered a stellar performance, winning 11 Gold, 4 Silver, and 2 Bronze Medals, along with multiple top finishes across categories. The university secured 1st place overall in Literary events and 2nd place in Theatre, Music, and Dance. Notable victories included 1st position in Procession, Cartooning, Rangoli, Western Vocal Solo, Western Instrumental, Group Song Western, Folk Dance, Elocution, Debate, Skit, and Mime.

Competing against 962 students from 21 universities, CU’s 49-member contingent delivered an outstanding performance across categories such as music, theatre, fine arts, literature, and dance, securing 26 victories. Four talented Computer Science Engineering (CSE) students from Chandigarh University have secured prestigious internships. They got internships at leading tech companies with impressive stipends. Out of the four CSE students of CU Chandigarh, David Goyal and Aryan Aggarwal got internships at PayPal. They both will receive Rs 1,00,000 per month stipend. At the same time, Harleen Kaur landed an opportunity at ServiceNow with a stipend of Rs 89,000 per month. Lastly, Jashanpreet Singh of Chandigarh University secured an internship at Amazon, with Rs 1,10,000 per month.

During the QS Asia Rankings 2025, India surpassed China and Japan in terms of representation in the QS rankings. In 2025, India 162 Indian Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) featured in the ranking. Out of 162 HEIs, 21 were new entries from India. Chandigarh University was ranked 149th position in 2024 and it jumped to 120th position in 2025 within a year. Chandigarh University has achieved a bigger milestone, as one of its students Aruna Tanwar becomes the first Indian entry in Para-Taekwondo at Tokyo Paralympics that are scheduled to be held from August 24 to September 5. Aruna Ranwar is already a two-time World Champion who hailed from a Haryanvi Village, Dinod. Despite having three fingers in each hand and arms not fully formed, Aruna Tanwar had a keenness in athletics martial arts. The 21-year-old Aruna is world No. 4 in the Women's U-49 category. Tanwar went onto winning medals in a string of international events, including a Silver medal in the 2018 Asian Para-Taekwondo Championship in Vietnam and Bronze at the World Championship in Antalya, Turkey.
Chandigarh University has launched the Student Satellite Designing and Training program ‘CUSAT’. The programme is exclusively for students in the field of aerospace engineering.
