It is said that "Law is organic". The Rajiv Gandhi School of Intellectual Property Law (RGSOIPL) professes that "legal education is organic too." As a brainchild of Mr. Vinod Gupta (former CEO of InfoUSA and life fellow of IIT Kharagpur) the School started its journey since 2006. Currently, it is the only law school in India functioning under the IIT system. The school is located at the campus of IIT Kharagpur, 120 km from Kolkata. The School has an academic collaboration with George Washington University Law School, USA and is in a process of enhancing its academic tie-ups with other reputed law schools of the globe. RGSOIPL has the unique feature of imparting 'traditional' legal education along with contemporary law courses suited to match the demands of a global economy. The School presently offers Three Year full time residential LL.B. Program (Honours in Intellectual Property Law), recognized by the Bar Council of India. The school equips the students to inculcate the intricacies of traditional law subjects and thereby capitalize this knowledge to excel in advanced technology law courses including IP subjects. The school has been engineered to embody excellence in techno-legal education. The Law School is functioning from its own state of the art campus from the academic year 2008-09.

Law Library is the lifeline of any law school. The RGSOIPL has its own library located inside the School building to accomplish the research and academic objectives. The current library has a collection of books and journals in every branch of law and is adding constantly to its content. The Library is well equipped with a documentation centre and study cubicles. The library is part of the Schools Wi fi system. The Library is open during the school hours and also extends to additional hours in the evening.
The library also has digital resources like Westlaw, LexisNexis, Hein Online, Jstor, Cambridge Law Journal, Manupatra, Ebrary, Springer e-books, Elsevier, Wiley and various IP online resources. The library subscribes to various legal databases and gearing to host free access to legal materials through various projects in the coming months.
