Indian Institute of Legal Studies is affilated to University of North Bengal and Approved by Bar council of India.Indian Institute of Legal Studies, hereinafter referred to as “IILS” is located at the foothills of the picturesque Himalayas in the Terai-Dooars confluence bestowing it with natural landscape and being blessed by an enviable cool climate throughout the year. IILS can be lauded for its connectivity by rail, air and road transport for its proximity to Bagdogra Airport (about 8 Kms), nearest broad-gauge railway station – Siliguri Junction (4 kms) and New Jalpaiguri Station (about 10 Kms), National Highways NH 31 and NH 55 just a stones throw distance. The Institute is a mammoth structure (G +3) consisting of 10,000 Sq. Ft. in each floor having been designed by the best Engineers and architects of Siliguri.The Indian Institute of Legal Studies is the out come of the vision and mission of its great founder Chairman Shri Joyjit Choudhury. Shri Choudhury is a young man with a pleasing personality, a hard working professional with multidimensional activities. He started practicing law at Calcutta High Court in his young age of 22 only after completing his B.A. LL.B. Degree from the North Bengal University and continued the practice at the High Court in addition to the Siliguri Court. He earned many credit to his name in his career in a couple of years including the honor bestowed upon him by appointing him guest faculty for the Department of Law by the University of North Bengal in his mid thirties. A visionary person having a dream to establish a centre of Legal education of high standard as the name of the Institute indicates itself. The Chairman has visualized his dream by establishing the present Institute. Its success shall be a great tribute to the legal fraternity and to the society at large. Indian Institute of Legal Studies, hereinafter referred to as “IILS”. India having reached the trajectory of attaining the status of a Developed Nation, and with the change in the attitude and policies of the Government in the education field, it has been felt that the State alone cannot shoulder the responsibility of guarantying education to all as enshrined in our Constitution, thus the participation of private capital in the sphere of education. Shackles have been broken, norms have been eased, paving the way of private participation in education, keeping the needs of the society in mind, the Chairman of IILS cherished a dream of laying the foundations of setting up this Institute way back in the year 2004, when land was purchased and gradually with perfect and emaculate planning over these years, the Institute has found shape ready for its purpose.

The Institute is a mammoth structure (G +3) consisting of 10,000 Sq. Ft. in each floor having been designed by the best Engineers and architects of Siliguri. The ground floor houses the spacious lobby, administrative offices, teachers room and class-rooms with toilets, drinking water provisions. Two stair cases supported by a lift through the lobby gives access to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd floors. All the upper floors in common have viewing balconies and class rooms with toilets, drinking water provisions. To be specific, the Principal’s office, moot court find place in the 1st floor.Our Institute is providing hostel facility to the male and female LL.B. students. The Boys Hostel has around 160 seats capacity in total and the Girls Hostel has around 36 seats capacity in total. Food and Lodging is arranged at affordable cost in the Hostel. In the month of June / July generally the admission in the Law Hostels will be made. The food being served at the hostel is prepared from products locally procured in a hygienic, sanitised, clean and modern kitchen. Special care is taken to see that the food prepared is not excess in oil, fat etc but rather the food consumed by inmates shall contribute towards the general, mental and physical well-being of the inmates. On –call medical facility is available at the hostels.
