Satyawati College (Evening) - SCN

The college takes its name after Behan Satyawati (1907-1945), the immortal freedom fighter of Delhi, remembered for her dedication to various patriotic missions. Established in 1973, the college currently has over 2400 students. The college attracts a large number of students both boys and girls from various regions of our country. The college is committed to providing meaningful education which equips students to face the challenges of an increasingly competitive world. We further seek to sensitise students to diverse streams of thought through the courses of study in humanities, social sciences and commerce. New courses imparting vocational skills are offered by the college as and when they are made available by the University. Over the years, the college has earned its reputation as a centre of academic excellence. The college has established its reputation in various fields such as Sports, NCC, Dramatics and  Debate. Ample opportunities are provided to students for cultivating creative self-expression and discovering latent talent through extra-curricular activities. A number of our college alumni have excelled in various fields of public life after graduating. Behan Satyawati Born on 26 January, 1907, Satyawati Vidyalankar was not merely a freedom fighter, but also a harbinger of new kinds of politics in her times. In a span of 38 years, (1907-45), she rose to prominence in India’s freedom struggle. She was christened as Toofani Behn by Mahatma Gandhi because of her ability for instant mobilization for a cause. For her, the workers were as critical to the nationalist campaign as the middle class, the mainstay in the then battle for freedom. While highlighting her contribution to the nationalist cause, one should also not miss the fact that it was she who always encouraged the women to take part in the struggle for freedom because she believed that they as well as their male counterparts had an equal responsibility in the freedom struggle. No wonder, Aruna Asaf Ali, rightly called her ‘the Indian Joan of Arc’.
