The University of New England is one of the largest private universities. It is famous for educating many healthcare professionals in Maine. UNE’s history dates back to 1831 when Westbrook Seminary started the present Portland Campus. The Biddeford Campus came into existence in 1939 as College Séraphique started a boy’s high school and college. The school became co educational in 1967. The university was ranked 246 in National Universities by US News 2020. 
 
Infrastructure, Campus & Courses
 
UNE has three campuses that provide students with a diverse learning environment. The two main campuses of the university which are in coastal Maine have undergraduate, graduate, and professional programmes. The Portland campus includes the Center for Global Humanities, Art Gallery and Maine Women Writers Collection.
The kinesiology and physical therapy courses are among the top 100 in America. The university is also known for its courses in Nursing and Biology.
 
Accomplishments & Alumni
 

In 2010, the university received its highest donation of $10 million from the Harold Alfond Foundation to build the Harold Alfond Forum on the Biddeford Campus. This is mainly to support interprofessional healthcare workforce education. Notable alumni include American poet and anthologist Paul Bryan Janeczko, Dr. Peter Alan Bell doctor of osteopathic medicine and former President of the Ohio Osteopathic Association. 
 
Student Diversity & Visiting Companies
 

UNE serves approximately 13,000 students every year. The average student to teacher ratio is 13 to 1. Almost 75% of the student body is dominated by women. Almost 5% of the students are of Asian origin. International students come from almost 14 countries around the world. The university understands the importance of intercultural exchange and encourages international applicants. Top companies that hire from the university include UPS Solutions, York Hospital, The Jackson Laboratory, etc.
