Overview

Officially known as the Republic of Armenia, the country is located in the South Caucasus region of Eurasia, sharing borders with Turkey, Georgia, Iran and Azerbaijan. Armenia, a small nation of only 29.7 lakh people (2019), is composed majorly of Christians. The country boasts heavy snowfalls; beautiful landscapes comprising fast flowing rivers and few forests; 100% literacy rate reported as early as 1960; a mix of indigenous folk music; among several other things.

All in all, the country’s education system includes four types of higher education institutions: university, institute, academy and conservatory. Currently, Armenia has a total of 33 private higher education institutions and 26 state universities (of which 4 are international). Along with on-site learning, professional education in the country is also offered off-site or through distance mode. The most popular areas of study in Armenia include Physics, Microbiology, Engineering, Medicine, IT, Mathematics, Chemistry, and Armenian studies.

Education from Armenian universities has been recognised internationally for reasons such as compatible education, high quality and availability of ample opportunities post-graduation in both the home country and Armenia. The education sector of Armenia has seen a tremendous growth over the years, resulting in attracting more international students especially in the field of medicine along with other areas.

In addition, Armenian universities, with primary emphasis on inter-institutional and interdisciplinary collaboration, conduct world-class research in a variety of fields.

Although Armenian is the official language of the country, all programs enrolling international students are delivered in English. With a long history of Armenia-India relations tracing back to 349 BC, the natives of Armenia are quite welcoming towards Indians.

A new life in Armenia comes with several advantages including strong and well funded cultural infrastructure, easily-available internet, low cost of living, a number of sites to visit and virtually zero crime rate.
