Exams and Selection Process for the Best Banking Jobs for BCom Graduates in 2026

The State Bank of India (SBI) conducts the SBI PO and Clerk exams to recruit Probationary Officers and Junior Associates to various SBI branches. You must be a citizen of India and completed your BCom from a recognized university to be able to appear for these exams. Additionally, your age must not be less than 21 and higher than 30 with relaxation for OBC, SC/ ST, PwD, and ex-servicemen.

SBI Probationary Officer ( SBI PO ) Exam

It comprises 3 phases: Preliminary Exam, Mains Exam, and Phase III which includes Psychometric Test, Group Exercises, and Interview.

Preliminary Exam

  • The Preliminary Exam is an online objective test conducted over a duration of 1 hour with a total of 100 questions (40 questions from English Language, 30 questions from Quantitative Aptitude, and 30 questions from Reasoning Ability).
  • The total marks of the Preliminary exam will be 100 and qualifying this phase is mandatory to be considered eligible for the Mains Exam.
  • 0.25 marks will be deducted for each wrong answer.

Mains Exam

  • The Mains Exam will be conducted over 3 hours 30 minutes (Objective - 3 hours, Descriptive - 30 minutes) for a total of 250 marks.
  • Objective questions will be asked from Reasoning & Computer Aptitude, Data Analysis & Interpretation, General/Economy/Banking Awareness, and English Language.
  • The Descriptive Test will be of 50 marks comprising English Letter Writing & Essay.

Phase III comprises the following:

  • Psychometric Test which is qualifying in nature
  • Group Exercises: 20 marks
  • Interview: 30 marks

SBI Clerk Exam

  • There are two main stages, Preliminary Exam and Mains Exam,  followed by the final selection phase comprising the Language Proficiency Test.
  • The Preliminary Exam will have 3 sections: English Language (30 questions), Numerical Ability (35 questions), and Reasoning Ability (35 questions). The total marks of the exam is 100 and the exam duration is 60 minutes.
  • If you qualify prelims, you can appear for the Mains Exam comprising General/Financial Awareness, General English, Quantitative Aptitude, and Reasoning Ability & Computer Aptitude. A total of 200 marks will be allotted for 190 questions.
  • After this, a Language Proficiency Test will be conducted to evaluate your reading, writing, and comprehension skills.
