CBSE Class 12 Physics Weightage 2026 : The CBSE 12th Physics exam consists of a theory paper of 70 marks and a practical exam of 30 marks, totaling 100 marks. The theory exam includes 9 units and 14 chapters. The practical exam of 30 marks includes experiments of a total of 14 marks, practical records of 5 marks, activities from any section of 3 marks, Investigatory projects of 3 marks, and viva voce of 5 marks. Some of the high weightage topics are Electrostatics (10 marks), Optics (14 marks), and Magnetism (11 marks), while smaller topics like Dual Nature of Radiation and Matter carry 4 marks each.

As per the new changes in CBSE Class 12 Physics Exam Pattern 2026 , there will be more competency-based questions, including case-based and source-based questions that will evaluate conceptual understanding rather than memorization. The question paper will have 50% competency-based questions, with a significant emphasis on MCQs, case-based, and source-based questions. Other 20% will be MCQs and 30% will be constructed response questions, which will include short-answer and long-answer questions.
