McMaster University is a public research university of Canada, which was established in 1887. The university was established in Toronto and was later on relocated to Hamilton, Ontario province of Canada in 1930. Today, the campus covers an area of 121 hectares. It comprises four campuses namely downtown Hamilton, Burlington, Kitchener-Waterloo, and Niagara among which downtown Hamilton is the main campus. The university is ranked as no. 146 according to QS Global World Ranking.

Every year, students from across 113 countries enrol for admission in various courses offered by McMaster University. It has more than 70 research centres and institutions and offers courses under six faculties namely The DeGroote School of Business, Faculty of Engineering, Health Sciences, Humanities, Science, and Social Sciences. McMaster University aims at discovering, communicating and preserving the knowledge. It supports innovation and creativity to master excellence in teaching and research. In the Fall 2017 session, 24% of the students of graduate studies at the university were international. As the world recuperates from the deadly COVID-19 wave, McMaster University has adapted its operations to provide the best possible student experience in person while keeping the students, staff and faculty safe during such an unprecedented time. With various types of vaccines rolling out in countries across the globe, McMaster University is expecting to return to normalcy soon. Here are a few steps taken by the university to ensure health and safety of the students, staff and faculty.
Synchronous (Virtual), Asynchronous (Online) and In-person classes will be part of all courses offered by the university. Depending on the public health permissions, most courses will include an in-person module, therefore, candidates are required to arrive in Canada for their courses.
Those courses that require in-person classes will include, however, those that are marked virtual or online, will remain so for the entire duration of the Fall Semester.
Housing facilities will be provided to incoming first-year undergraduates only, as a result of the space restrictions.
International students are currently allowed to travel to Canada to start their higher education, however, depending on the situation of the country of origin, Canada may choose to ban flights from certain countries.
International students are also eligible to get vaccinated once they are in the country. Currently, Canada accepts four different vaccinations i.e., Moderna, Pfizer BioNTech, Astra/Zeneca COVISHIELD and Johnson & Johnson vaccines.
The University will also be offering safe transportation from designated government quarantine hotels for students who are required to quarantine on arrival.
On-campus, McMaster University has taken every possible precaution such as increased sanitisation and cleaning of facilities and high-traffic areas, implementing strict social distancing norms, and more to ensure the safety of students, staff and faculty.
All students, staff and faculty are required to wear masks as per the guidelines detailed by the government.
Students travelling to the campus are also required to complete the COVID-19 screening app of the province. Those who are eligible will be allowed to set foot on the campus, while those who do not clear the app, will be required to quarantine themselves.
