NMIMS Bangalore Organises a Walkathon to Promote Mental Health Awareness

Udyam, the Corporate Social Responsibility Committee of SVKM’s NMIMS Bengaluru, held a Walkathon to promote mental health awareness on September 21, 2023 . The event, themed “Walk for a Cause: Mental Health Awareness”, was aimed at the students of the School of Business Management.

The Walkathon commenced at the Royal Meenakshi Mall and concluded at Windsor Amulyam, covering a distance of 5 Km. More than 150 students participated, expressing their support for the cause through slogans and banners. To further raise awareness about mental health among the general public, a "Nukkad Natak" or street play, was performed post-walk. The performance was divided into three segments, each focusing on different aspects of mental health. By recreating real-life scenarios faced by youth, the play aimed to highlight the importance of dealing with challenges and emerging victorious.

Professor Janaki Anant, the faculty mentor at Udyam, was guiding the students throughout the event. She encouraged students to share their personal experiences with mental health, providing a safe space for open discussion. The stories shared offered deep insights into the struggles faced by students and their journey towards overcoming them.

The walkathon had brought to light three valuable lessons: the impact of internal and external pressures on mental health, the link between failure, self-doubt, and unhealthy behavioural patterns, and the importance of seeking help to address and overcome trauma. The successful event was a testament to Udyam’s commitment to raising public awareness about mental health and contributing to a more liveable and fair world. It also reflected NMIMS Bangalore’s dedication to creating healthier campuses in these changing times.
