Reasons Behind Academic Diversity at NMIMS

The selection process at NMIMS is quite unique. With its focus primarily being on academics, the holistic development of students also plays an important role. Let us check what could be the reasons behind the diverse academic structure at Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies.

Reasons

Explanation

Holistic Learning Environment

  • NMIMS values candidates from engineering, commerce, arts, science, and other academic streams to create a classroom with multiple perspectives.
  • This diversity enriches case discussions, group projects, and peer learning.

Fair Opportunity for Non-Engineers

  • Non-engineering backgrounds (commerce, economics, humanities, law, pharmacy, etc.) often get preference in shortlisting and final selection when their overall profile is strong, even if their NMAT score is slightly lower compared to engineers.
  • A student from an engineering background brings a quantitative and analytical mindset, while a student from a humanities or commerce background offers a different perspective on business problems.

Corporate Expectations

  • Recruiters value diverse batches because companies want candidates with different skill sets (quantitative, analytical, creative, managerial).
  • NMIMS ensures its graduates reflect this balance.

Reducing Overrepresentation of Engineers

Like most B-schools, a large chunk of applicants are engineers. To avoid a one-dimensional student pool, NMIMS consciously selects candidates from varied backgrounds.
