The first day of the phase-1 of IIT Madras placements, there have been over 100 job offers made to the students at the institute. Various organizations, like Microsoft and Uber, participated in the first day of the placements, where the institute witnessed a total of 102 offers being made its students.
Compared to the previous year’s placement report, more than 20 companies had made offers to the students on the first day of the placement session. Last year, there had been 85 offers made by 19 companies. Among the offers that had been made, 4 international offers had also been offered to the students, this year.

The first phase placements at IIT Madras concluded on December 08, 2018. Over 326 companies visited the campus this year. A total of 92 offers (including six international offers) were made during the Day 1 of first phase placements at IIT Madras 2018-19. IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) Madras has witnessed an increase in Pre-Placement Offers (PPOs) this year. Close to 130 students (excluding Department of Management Studies) bagged PPOs until October 22, 2018. Compared to the previous year, there has been a significant growth in the pre-placement offers this year. One of the major reasons for the rise in PPOs at IIT Madras was robust internship programme of the premier institute, which has been helping students to secure internship opportunities in popular companies.
Apart from the engineering internships, Department of Management Studies of IIT Madras has also recorded a significant growth in PPOs this year.

The first phase placements at Indian Institute of Technology, Madras that started on December 1, 2017, has been concluded. The institute witnessed a magnificent increase in the number of offers made by different companies on the first day of the placement drive. Various reputed companies made 877 offers and 23 students bagged international offers. Companies like Microsoft, Indeed, Uber, Rubrik, Mercari, Sekisui Chemical and Softbank.
According to the placement report of IIT Madras, 62% of the students who registered for the placements bagged jobs in the first phase of placement. In 2016, 132 more students of the institute were placed before the end of the first phase of placement.
According to sources, the highest package offered on Day 1 was Rs. 1 crore per annum. Students took part in the placement process actively without much stress. IIT Madras’s decision to end the graveyard session this year reduced pressure and stress among the students. On day one of placements at IIT Madras, over 33 companies recruited students in two sessions. The total number of offers rolled out at the institute in the first phase of placement was 763.

90% of the students from the Computer Science and Engineering, Engineering Design and Electrical Engineering departments were placed this season. There was also a 10% rise in the placements of Postgraduate students.
Also, the placements for research scholars saw a rise of 50% in 2017 and companies like UIDAI, Intel India, Qualcomm, ABInBev and Bajaj Autos recruited research scholars. This year, students of IIT Madras were also offered 114 PPOs. Goldman Sachs, Microsoft and Qualcomm were the top companies that offered PPOs to students who excelled as interns.
32 startups also visited the Institute for placements this year and offered 85 jobs. The first phase of placement process began at most of the IITs on December 1, 2017. Reputed firms lined up to hire students on Day 1.
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras has witnessed a 56% rise in the PPOs (Pre Placement Offers) for the academic session 2017-18. Compared to the previous academic session, there has been a widespread increase in the number of PPOs. This year, IIT Madras received 114 PPOs, whereas, the figure in 2016 was 73.
According to data released by IIT Madras, core sectors offered the highest number of PPOs. On the other hand, financial services firms also showed a keen interest in recruiting students from IIT Madras. The major firms that gave out PPOs at IIT Madras were: -

Students of electrical engineering and computer science engineering departments bagged over 60% of PPOs. Core engineering industry concentrated in offering PPOs to students of other departments.
A final year student from the civil engineering department, Nori Archana, bagged a PPO from Goldman Sachs. The student added that the number of PPOs have increased magnificently this year. She termed the scenario as a good sign for both students and companies. Many companies are drifting towards PPO format of recruitment from conventional campus placements, she added.
Advisor to Training & Placement, IIT Madras, Professor Manu Santhanam stated the main reason for the increase in PPOs. This year, there were many large recruiters and these companies evinced keen interest in offering PPOs to IIT Madras students, Santhanam opined.
