Named after a great Indian Mathematician and autodidact Late Srinivasa Ramanujan, the Ramanujan College of Delhi University is situated in Kalkaji, Delhi. This South Campus College of the University of Delhi was established in 1958 by the Ministry of Rehabilitation, Government of India. The college started as an evening college called Deshbandhu College named after the great freedom fighter Late Lala Deshbandhu Gupta. Originally, it was run by the Ministry of Rehabilitation but since 1972 it has been maintained by the University of Delhi. The college became a co-educational college in 1994. Before that, it was a Men's’ college. The college came into existence as Ramanujan College in July 2010.
Sprawling over 7 acres of land, the Ramanujan College of DU in Kalkaji, New Delhi is fully funded by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and enrols up to 1000 students every year. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) awarded Ramanujan College with ‘A’ grade in 2015.
Located in South Delhi, Ramanujan College is the third largest college for commerce education among all the colleges of Delhi University. The college offers 15 undergraduate courses under five degrees namely B.A., B.Sc., B.Voc., B.M.S., and B.Com. Being a NAAC ‘A’ grade college, it has a highly qualified and experienced faculty with their creative and academic work published in reputed national and international journals. The strength of the faculty is 83.
The college has a very well-stocked library with over 45,000 titles to its name apart from the latest publications in all the subjects that are taught in the college. Ramanujan College has a well-equipped computer lab along with other departments’ laboratories give easy access to students to discover new horizons of learning.
Its provision of the best sports equipment and a large playground to its students have helped Ramanujan College maintain its excellence in sports. The sportspersons of this college have not only won various prizes at the University level but also at the state and at the national level. The college does not only focus on the academic performance of the students but also makes sure of the overall development. For that, the college has a wide array of societies and clubs that provide a platform for talented students to enhance and showcase their skills.
Ramanujan College, DU also organizes cultural programs, debates, seminars, guest lectures and educational trips for its students and leaves no stone unturned to ensure the overall development of its students. In collaboration with the central placement cell of Delhi University, the placement cell of Ramanujan College facilitates campus recruitment for the final year students and internships for other students to train them for the corporate world.
