Overview

Georgia, located in the Caucasus region of Eurasia, is spread across a territory of 69,700 square kilometres. With a total population of more than 37 lakhs, the country has been recording a steady increase in the number of international students

Georgia is mostly popular for bachelor’s, master’s, doctorate courses in fields such as business, marketing, IT and medicine. Programs offered at Georgian medical universities are approved by both the Medical Council of India (MCI) and the World Health Organisation (WHO). Unlike pre 2012 when international students in the country formed only a small portion of the country’s population, the number has significantly risen because of factors like standard of education, economical cost of living, no IELTS, low tuition fees, and many more.

The most popular cities for students in Georgia include Tbilisi, Kutaisi and Batumi.  With a 99.36% literacy rate and 6% of government expenditure on education each year, Georgia is considered one of the ideal destinations for students from across the globe. Not many know the charms of the country: its long tradition of producing organic wine, the Georgian language (Kartuli), Georgian dance that tells stories of the history and culture of the people, Acharuli Khachapuri (a traditional Georgian dish), among others.

Placed suitably for students, the country’s higher education system is based on three types of educational institutions, which include universities, teaching universities and colleges. The sovereign state is known for excellent student support, teaching-learning and research along with exposure to an entirely different culture, traditions and communities.

Although a land of fewer expats, its immense hospitality is widely appreciated. The capital of the country, Tbilisi, is, in fact, one of the most inexpensive cities in the world by European living standards. The World Bank also ranks the country 6th among the easiest countries in the world for to start a business. Popular for its diversity, the Georgian cuisine incorporates Persian, , Caucasian and Middle Eastern influences.
