IIM Shillong students bagged jobs from Ratnakar Bank and Tata Steel. The highest number of internships came from these companies whereas internet giant Google, Amazon and L'Oreal came to the campus for the first time.
Moreover it turned out to be a blessing for the students as the college witnessed 100% increase in the number of manufacturing/retail and FMCG companies visiting the campus for offering internships, Public Relations and Placement Chairperson Prof Sharad Nath Bhattacharya said. Ratnakar Bank and Tata Steel made nine and eight offers respectively, he added.
Companies like Google, L Oreal, Dabur, OlaCabs, Amazon, Snapdeal, Fidelity Investments, Bajaj Allianz, and Teach for India, were among the prominent first time recruiters and sales and marketing emerged as the most sought after domain, with 30% of the total offers being made in this domain.
Other major companies that came to the campus for offering internships were Mahindra GMC, Aditya Birla Group, Nomura, HSBC, Cognizant Business Consulting, GSK Pharmaceuticals, Sapient Global Markets, Tata Motors, ICICI Bank, IBM, Wipro, Hero MotoCorp and FCB Ulka, among others.
While 61 companies made 174 offers across various domains this year, the highest stipend offered was of Rs 1.6 lakh in the sales and marketing sector. The average total stipend witnessed a significant jump of 25% from the previous year, he said.
