IIM CAP 2021
The Common Admission Process (CAP) is the selection process conducted by the 9 new IIMs. It is conducted for admission to the postgraduate programmes of the Indian Institutes of Management participating in CAP 2021. Candidates who had appeared for the Common Admission Test (CAT) 2020 conducted on November 29 will be eligible to participate in CAP 2021. IIM is conducting the first phase of personal interview for CAP 2021 from February 15 to 20, 2021. The registration for CAP 2021 ended on January 23, 2021.
A total of nine new IIMs will participate in CAP 2021. These are IIM Jammu, IIM Ranchi, IIM Bodh Gaya, IIM Sambalpur, IIM Trichy, IIM Udaipur and IIM Ranchi. IIM Raipur will be the institute coordinating the entire process of CAP 2021. IIM Bodh Gaya has released its list of candidates shortlisted for CAP 2021 on its official website. Other CAP participating IIMs will release the names of the shortlisted candidates soon and the Personal Interviews will be held in three phases in February and March 2021.
The CAP 2021 coordinating IIM will conduct the Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI) of applicants. Group Discussion (GD) will not be a part of CAP 2021. Thereafter, the merit list of candidates for each individual participating college will be calculated and sent to the respective college. The final results of MBA admissions will then be announced by the colleges individually. The respective institutes will also send admission offers to the selected candidates through email and all the selected candidates will have to confirm the acceptance of the admission before the due date in order to avoid rejection by the IIMs. Candidates can find all of the important details regarding CAP 2021, such as the important dates, centres, shortlisting criteria, cutoff etc. for the CAP 2021 exam in this article.

CAP 2021 WAT and PI Selection Criteria
It is important for the candidates who wish to participate in CAP 2021 to have a good knowledge of the selection criteria of CAP 2021. The first stages of the selection criteria for IIMs is common for all the institutes but the decision for giving final admission to a candidate and the final stages of the process is dependant on individual institutes. Candidates can refer to the steps given below for information on how to participate in CAP 2021.
Step 1: Shortlisting of Candidates
Candidates are required to clear the CAT cutoff specified by the individual IIMs to which they have applied for admission. The IIM CAT cutoff percentile is released by individual IIMs and candidates must stay updated with the latest information to ensure that they are eligible for admission to their choice of IIM.
Step 2: Preparation of List of Shortlisted Candidates for CAP 2021
The list of shortlisted candidates is prepared by various IIMs and sent to the institute responsible for conducting the CAP for that particular year. CAP 2021 is being conducted by IIM Ranchi.
Step 3: Candidates Called for CAP 2021
Once the final list of candidates shortlisted for CAP 2021 has been prepared by IIM Ranchi, the candidate will get an invitation to participate. The candidates who have received the call for CAP 2021 have to appear at one of the CAP 2021 test centres and participate in the next round of selection for IIMs.
Step 4: WAT and PI
Invited candidates have to go through the Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI) round of selection at one of the CAP 2021 test centres. Both the tests are conducted on the same day.
Step 5: CAP 2021 Scores Sent to Respective IIMs
Candidates are scored based upon their performance in the WAT and PI and the scores of the candidates are sent to the respective IIMs to which they have applied. The CAP conducting body will be responsible for the preparation of final scores of a candidate in the WAT / PI round of CAP 2021.
Step 6: Final Selection of Candidates by Various IIMs
The Final Scores of a candidate for MBA admissions are calculated by individual IIMs based upon the weightage specified in their selection policy. Apart from the WAT / PI scores, a candidate's previous academic performance and work experience are also considered when considering a candidate for admission to PGP / MBA / PGDM courses offered by various IIMs.
The candidates who have cleared the criteria specified in the admission policy of various IIMs can then complete the admission process and enrol for admission to their choice of management course. At the time of admission, candidates will be required to pay the requisite admission fee as well as submit a number of supporting documents for verification purposes.

Shortlisting Cut Offs of Individual IIMs
Candidates are shortlisted for participating in the admission process of IIMs based upon their score in the CAT 2020 exam. To be eligible for admission, candidates are required to have a score equal to or greater than the CAT 2020 cutoff announced by various IIMs. Candidates can refer to the table given below for the CAT 2020 expected cut off for shortlisting of candidates for admission. The number of candidates shortlisted by IIMs for the WAT-PI process is usually around 10 times the number of seats available.

CAP 2020
CAP 2020 was conducted by the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ranchi and a total of nine IIMs participated in the process. Candidates had to undergo two tests as part of the Common Admission Process -- Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI). However, WAT weightage in CAP is not considered for the final merit list as many candidates could not participate in WAT process and the PI round was also conducted online due to COVID-19.
