Student Diversity & Visiting Companies
Being in such close proximity to a multicultural megapolis such as NYC, Hofstra offers excellent academic, cultural and career opportunities for learning and growth, especially to its international student population, which comprises a healthy mix of talented higher education aspirants from 75 different countries. With an ideal location like NYC, it becomes easier for students to enjoy attractions, secure internships and placements in the most reputed companies. This is one of the many reasons why Hofstra University can be listed among one of the best US universities for international students.
Hofstra’s Task Force on Reopening has been working exclusively to develop protocols issued by the local, state and federal governments to ensure a “Safe Start” for Fall 2020. The university’s faculty, researchers, academic administrators, and student counselors are also exploring better ways to keep the sessions flexible and easily accessible for students across the world. While some things would be different, the university promises to deliver a personalised experience to every student. Apart from changing the Fall academic calendar 2020, Hofstra has also developed a detailed plan to ensure the health and safety of students living on campus. The following have been put in place at the university in response to COVID-19:
Students have been asked to wear a mask in all campus buildings, except for their own room, suite or office.
All classrooms and public spaces are being reorganised in order to ensure social distancing amongst students.
Students and employees are required to undergo a four-question screening test via the university's portal or smartphone app before entering the campus or attending class.
There are multiple financial aid options available for US citizens studying at Hofstra University. The university has provided over USD 100 million as financial aid to undergraduate students, which includes student loans as well as fee waivers.
However, financial aid options open for international students are comparatively limited.
Undergraduate students at Hofstra University are only eligible for merit-based scholarships. Candidates who wish to apply for these scholarships must submit their ACT and SAT test scores for admissions.
International students enrolled in postgraduate courses at Hofstra University can take care of the multiple graduate employment opportunities open for students within the campus, in addition to the merit-based scholarships. Students can join assistantships, take up positions as resident directors or tutors to help fund their study without having to leave the campus. Once a student has enrolled in a postgraduate programme, the university’s Office of Student Employment can be contacted for information about such positions and how to join them.
International PG students can also apply for merit-based scholarships. Candidates can obtain information about these scholarships, including amount, eligibility, renewal criteria etc. by contacting their department or Dean’s office.
While these options are left open, Hofstra University recommends international students to look for sources of third-party financial aid for their education. Students are advised to look for options such as organisations that provide merit-based or need-based scholarships to higher education aspirants or student loan options that are available to them in their own country.
