Ohlone College is a public community college, which was established in 1965. It is one of the very few community colleges in California that offer intensive English language classes. Present in a suburban setting, the main campus of the college is located in Fremont, California. Ohlone College is one of the 112 other colleges that are registered in the California Community College System. Ohlone College is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) which comes under the Commission on Recognition of Postsecondary Accreditation and the U.S. Department of Education.
Infrastructure, Campus & Courses
The ethnically diverse college promotes continuous improvement and innovation in various departments and divisions. To ensure that every student’s right to education gets fulfilled, the college offers a variety of scholarships and even has a Centre for Deaf Studies.
Ohlone College offers over 60 associate degrees that lead students to university transfers. It also offers more than 100 vocation certificate programmes that provide students with job skill training.
The university accepts international students with open arms. In previous years, the top transfer universities for international students at Ohlone College were The University of California, San Diego (UCSD), The University of California, Davis (UCD), The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), San Jose State University, The University of California, Berkeley (UCB).
As of 2018, over 550 students from the college were transferred to California State University (CSU). students from more than 40 countries across the globe come to get admission in more than 195 degrees and certificates offered by Ohlone College.
Accomplishments & Alumni
Ohlone college consists of over 500 part-time and full-time faculty staffs and over 200 other professionals employed within the college. Apart from this, every year over 1500 students are employed at the college for education and in the year 2018-19 alone, over 1076 students graduated from the colleges with associate degrees and 631 students with certifications. Some of the noted alumni from the college include Brian Dunning, author; Terry Alderete, Businesswoman; Glenn Dishman, professional baseball pitcher, etc.
Student Diversity & Visiting Companies
Apart from academics, the college continuously promotes students’ involvement in co-curricular activities. The college fields teams in 7 university sports that include soccer, basketball, baseball, swimming, water polo, etc. The Broadcasting Department of the college has its own radio station: KOHL 89.3 FM that provides students with a platform to get industry level experience.
