
CBSE Class 12 English Weightage 2026
: The CBSE Class 12 English (Core) exam 2026 is divided into three main sections, including Reading Skills (22 marks), Creative Writing Skills (18 marks), and Literature Textbook and Supplementary Reading Text (40 marks). This well defined weightage for each unit and chapter makes a total of 80 marks for theory and 20 marks for internal assessment. All chapters from Flamingo and Vistas are important because chapter selection is random in board examinations. Focus on Reading and Writing as they fetch a combined 40 marks, while Literature sections (Flamingo and Vistas) together constitute 40 marks.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has introduced some changes in the
CBSE Class 12 English Exam Pattern 2025-26
in alignment with the National Education Policy. In the new CBSE Class 12 exam pattern for 2025-26, there will be more competency-based questions, which will focus on understanding and practicing various concepts rather than memorizing them. 50% of the questions in the question paper will be competency-based questions, with a significant emphasis on MCQs, case-based, and source-based questions.
