If you are wondering, “What is a Blacklisted University?”, and looking for ways to avoid it, know that they have not received any valid recognition or accreditation by any legal authority like the UGC. The degrees offered by them are also invalid.
What is a Blacklisted University?

What is a Blacklisted University: It is an educational institution that has been officially prohibited by a government authority or accrediting agency after being recognized and declared fake by it. It operates illegally with the title “university” without having received any valid recognition or accreditation by any legal body. Such an institute does not have the power to award any degree, qualification, or certificate. Hence, before enrolling, it is suggested that you always verify if the institution has been accredited or officially recognized by regulatory authorities such as UGC in India.

What are the Characteristics of a Blacklisted University?

The key features of a Blacklisted University can be summarized as follows:

  • It must have been discovered by a government or regulatory body, like the University Grants Commission (UGC) in India and similar bodies all over the world, as an institution that does not have any legal power or proper authority to award degrees.
  • They must not have been established by a Central, State, or Provincial Act, or empowered by an Act of Parliament (Sections 22 and 23 of the UGC Act, 1956). Hence, the usage of the title “university” by these institutions is illegal.
  • They have not obtained accreditation or approval from major authorized organizations, which implies, the educational standards at the institutes or the quality of education and instruction offered by them, including their legitimacy have not been validated.
  • It may also happen that these institutions have lost the valid accreditation and standards they once achieved. For this reason, they are widely known as “fake universities” or “diploma mills”.
  • They have also violated the norms or failed to meet the standards (academic benchmarks and faculty requirements) established by the supervisory bodies. No compliance with UGC and government norms have been observed. The governance and administrative systems are poor and below par. The infrastructure facilities such as buildings, laboratories, libraries, and other necessary learning resources are insufficient and not up to the mark.
  • The teaching faculty at these institutions are not properly qualified and trained and possess mediocre, substandard, or inadequate number of academic qualifications.
  • The programmes offered by these institutes are not recognized by the regulatory agencies.
  • The degrees awarded by these institutions have no academic value and are considered invalid. Hence, the degrees granted by them will not be considered for higher education and career opportunities. Employers, Government bodies, or other educational institutions will not accept these unauthorized certifications.
  • These institutions also fail to furnish the key academic and administrative details during inspection, as declared mandatory by Section 13 of the UGC Act.

Dear Student,

The IMI Chennai AMAIE degree certificate's validity for government jobs depends on the recognition status of the awarding institution. AMAIE (the Association of Mutual Aid Institutions of Engineers) degrees are not universally recognised by bodies like AICTE or UGC in India. Many government jobs require degrees from institutions approved by these statutory bodies. While AMAIE certificates may hold some industry-specific value, they are often not accepted for government job eligibility, especially in technical roles where AICTE or UGC recognition is mandatory. Candidates holding AMAIE degrees might face difficulties in government recruitment processes or promotions. For confirmed government job …

Dear Student,

Choosing Civil Engineering instead of Computer Science for your B.Tech is a perfectly valid and strategic choice. While Computer Science remains highly popular due to abundant IT job opportunities, Civil Engineering holds strong prospects in infrastructure development, urban planning, construction, and smart city projects. With rapid urbanisation and large investments in infrastructure globally, the demand for civil engineers is rising steadily. Civil Engineering offers hands-on roles in designing roads, bridges, water supply, and buildings and provides diverse career paths in both the private and public sectors. It can also offer less competition compared to the crowded computer science …
