The T&P Division has adequate infrastructure comprising of group Discussion and Interview Rooms. The placement cell is equipped with Computers with internet facility. The placement cell maintains a database of all the registered students with all relevant details and information of companies visiting the campus. A large number of companies visit the campus every year and recruit eligible students from the campus. The number of students placed through campus recruitment activity is increasing every year, except for the year 2008-2009. Maj Gen (Retd.) M S Prakash, Head – HR, is in charge of placement and training activities. The placement cell in NIE is also assisted by student coordinators who are elected by the students from all branches. During the academic years 2009-10, 2010-11, 2011-12, 2012-13, 2013-14 we had the privilege of being visited by 68 companies including 44 IT-companies and 24 non-IT companies each year. A total of 1849 students have been placed through campus recruitment in the last five years. For the year 2014-15 till date we have 435 students placed and 52 companies visited the campus. We had the good fortune of being visited by core companies specific to each domain such as ABB LTD., Mercedeces Benz and LARSEN & TOUBRO LTD for Mechanical and Industrial & Production, BROADCOM & NATIONAL INSTRUMENTS for Electrical & Electronics and Electronics & Communication, TCS, WIPRO for Computer Science and also by many dream companies to name a few, such as CISCO, IBM, AMAZON, GOOGLE, SAP LABS and MICROSOFT. The placement cell library has a good collection of books and materials related to placement and overall personality development.
NIE has various Centers of Excellence (Renewable energy, Building Fire safety) which offer “industry ready” programmes to ensure the employability of students. Further, the departments conducts various programmes which brings courses of Industry relevance to students.
Mandatory Programmes: As part of the training activity, focused training for Aptitude, Technical Tests, Group Discussions, Facing Interviews are imparted to all the pre-final year students who register with Training and Placement office. The Placement Officer regularly contacts many IT-related and manufacturing organisations and forwards details of eligible students to the industry for campus placement.
The students from final year help the students of pre-final year in preparing them for the actual recruitment. There are two sessions, one during the tenure of the odd semester and the other that continues during the even semester. They hold various activities which include Aptitude tests, Group discussions, Technical tests, Verbal tests and Psychometric tests. Apart from these, at the end of every session a mock interview is held which simulates the actual recruitment process.
Further, interactive sessions with the students of final year who have been selected by the companies are frequently arranged. Here the students narrate their experiences during the interview process. They give facts / necessary information that would add on students’ preparation.
Following additional programme are available which are optional, however attending a few of these programmes shall certainly enhance their employment opportunities and also admission for overseas postgraduate programmes.
For the above optional programmes students have to pay the prescribed fees for the programme by the trainer and examination conducting authorities.
Leading companies like NettApp, Broadcom, Philips Innovation, Hewlett-Packard, CISCO, Erricsson, TVS, Fidelity Systems etc are offering Project Internship for final year students of UG & PG programmes which enhances the Industrial exposure and practical applications for students.
Apart from these regular workshops are conducted by professionals of the above said fields to fine-tune the skills of the students.
