Established in the year 1832, Durham University is currently one of the best in the UK and the world for pursuing higher education. A public, research-oriented university, Durham University holds the 5th position in the Guardian University Guide. Durham University’s affiliations include ACU, Universities UK, N8, EUA, Wallace Group, Universities U.K and Virgo Consortium. The QS Global World Ranking 2022 of Durham University is 86. The Times Higher Education ranks the university at the 133rd position in its World University Rankings 2020.
Infrastructure, Campus & Courses
Durham University has two campuses, one in Durham city and the other in Stockton. Students who are enrolled at the Durham University International Study Centre study at the Queen's Campus, Stockton. Both campuses of Durham University have different ambience and are distinctive and outstanding in their ways. Durham University has one of the most extensive course catalogues in the UK and more than 330 undergraduate and postgraduate programmes can be pursued here. The university is renowned for its academic excellence and 18 of the subjects that it offers rank in the world top 100. The university has four departments and 17 colleges are part of Durham University’s collegiate system. As far as the infrastructure is concerned, Durham has a lush 563 acres estate, which includes a monument that is a part of the UNESCO world heritage site. The university has big and beautiful classrooms, well-equipped laboratories, and enriched libraries.

Durham University accepts applications from all around the globe. A total of 20,268 are enrolled at Durham University in 2020/ 21 at both undergraduate and postgraduate level of studies from the UK and countries around the world among which 30% are international students from across 130 countries. Durham University is recognised as a top university for employability. QS World University Rankings (2021) has ranked Durham University at 51 in the world for employer reputation. The UK Government has confirmed the in-person teaching in English Universities from May 17, 2021. Students who are returning to the UK are advised to follow the guidelines mentioned below:
Students must get COVID-19 tested before arriving in Durham. Students are advised to take LFT on day 1, day 4 and day 7 as well as two Lateral Flow Tests per week throughout the term.
Students arriving from other countries will need to follow the central government and state government guidelines on arrival in the UK. Those who have been travelling through the ‘red list countries’ in the last few days cannot arrive in the UK as per the UK Government guidelines.
Durham University has made all arrangements to ensure that the campus is COVID- 19 secure.
Before visiting Durham University, students must keep their vaccination record of various diseases up to date. Those who are travelling to a foreign nation from the UK post-May 17th can demonstrate COVID-19 vaccination status. Travellers, especially to the red-listed countries can show proof of full vaccination in digital or paper format received by the UK Government.
Merit-based scholarships offered to international students who show excellent academic ability. All international applications to undergraduate programmes are automatically considered eligible for these scholarships and there is no need to file a separate application.

Eligibility: International Excellence Scholarships are available to candidates who satisfy the following eligibility criteria.
A scholarship award that can be claimed by Commonwealth nationals pursuing postgraduate-level study at Durham University. A separate application needs to be filed for this scholarship and applicants are also required to communicate their intention to apply on the Durham University application as well.
Value: Full tuition fees + £1,110 stipend per month + additional allowances
Deadline: 18 December
Eligibility: Candidates seeking the Commonwealth Shared Scholarships must satisfy the following eligibility criteria.
