Morgan State University is a public historically black research university in Baltimore, Maryland. In 1867, the university, then known as the Centenary Biblical Institute, changed its name to Morgan College to honour Reverend Lyttleton Morgan, the first chairman of its board of trustees and a land donor to the college. Morgan State University is ranked #293-#381 in National Universities by the US News 2020. Morgan State University is regionally accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE). Morgan State University is authorised by the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC) and a host of other academic accreditation bodies.

Situated in an urban setting, the campus size of Morgan State University is 170 acres. Black Enterprise Magazine publisher Earl Graves, Lieutenant General William "Kip" Ward, The New York Times sports columnist William C. Rhoden, playwright, TV producer, and entrepreneur David E. Talbert, and American-Israeli Olympic sprinter Donald Sanford have studied at Morgan State University.
