The United States Sports Academy was established in 1972 by Dr. Thomas P. Rosandich in direct response to the ever-escalating needs and demands in sports society in America. It is a private university and since its inception, the Academy’s mission has been to provide a competitive platform for sports education. It is the only accredited free-standing sports university in the United States. USSA is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs and Alabama State Licensure and Certification. The Academy has been preparing men and women for careers in the profession of sports.

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

House to the United States Sports Academy’s faculty and staff, as well as the American Sport Art Museum & Archives, the institution’s main building, is an architectural marvel. It was designed by Loftis Bell Downing and built in the 1970s. 
The Academy consists of a human performance laboratory that is home to state-of-the-art equipment including a hydrostatic weighing pool, air displacement plethysmography equipment, muscular strength testing and more. 
USSA offers intensive UG courses under its sports science degree. It also offers master’s, doctoral degrees and certificate courses.

Accomplishments & Alumni 

The academy also hosts award programs and honors prominent figures from various fields. First given in 1985, The Amos Alonzo Stagg Coaching Award is presented every year by the academy. Another prestigious award associated with the university is Carl Maddox Sport Management Award. It has been presented to the achievers since 1991.
 
Academy’s notable alumni are Aimee Buchanan, Olympic figure skater, Tony Hobson, head coach at Fort Hays State University, Mike Leach, head coach of the Mississippi State University and many.

Student Diversity & Visiting Companies

USSA’s sports programs have been attended by students from more than 60 countries. The university now offers post-secondary non-degree sports programs to students in India via online educational mode. Most of the students apply for part-time undergrad degrees in the academy while working in the same field.

The employment rate of the university is 88%. Students learn from the top-notch faculty and are placed in their related departmentS within 2 years after the completion of the degree.
