Shift from Off-Screen to On-Screen Evaluation for CBSE Class 12 Board Exams
The Central Board of Secondary Education has introduced the On-Screen Marking (OSM) evaluation system for Class 12 board exams 2026. Now onwards, the answer sheets will be scanned and uploaded to an online platform for evaluation instead of checking physical answer sheets manually. With this shift, the evaluation process is expected to be completed in 9 days, as compared to 12 days earlier. This new change applies only to Class 12, while Class 10 remains physical. To pass CBSE Class 12 Geography exam 2026, you need a minimum of 33% marks to pass. This will require obtaining 33% in theory and 33% in practical/ internal assessments separately. In addition to that, you also need to obtain a 33% overall aggregate for Class 12th Geography. 23 is the minimum passing marks out of 70, while in the practical exam, the minimum passing criteria is 9 marks. However, CBSE will focus on releasing overall pass percentages, gender-wise result statistics, regional performance, and aggregate data. CBSE Class 12 Merit Certificates 2026
CBSE will award subject-wise Merit Certificates to the top 0.1% of passing candidates for Class 12 in 2026, instead of releasing official toppers lists. You must ensure that you have passed the examination (33% aggregate, including separate theory/ practical minimums) as per the pass criteria of the Board. These certificates recognize high achievement per subject and are issued post-results automatically. The number is calculated by rounding total passers to the nearest multiple of a thousand. However, if the number of candidates passing a subject is less than 500, no merit certificate will be issued.
