GBPUAT Admission for Non-Uttarakhand Students

If there is any big name in agriculture and allied fields in India, it is GB Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar , Uttarakhand. Since its inception in 1960, it has been known for good academic consideration, well-structured research programs, and its direct relevance to practical life. Every year, thousands of students from all over the country attempt to enter its various undergraduate, postgraduate, and research programs. However, the admission to the university has a different procedure for candidates who are not domiciled in the state.

If you do not have a domicile of Uttarakhand and wish to take admission in GBPUAT, it becomes very important that you understand the working of admission for non-domicile candidates concerning eligibility criteria, seat allotment, and cutoffs.

GBPUAT Eligibility Criteria for Non-Uttarakhand Students

For students who are not from Uttarakhand, the eligibility rules are mostly the same in terms of academic qualifications, but there are no state-based benefits or reservations.

Academic Qualifications and Exams Accepted
Undergraduate Courses Postgraduate Courses PhD Programs
You need to have completed your 10+2 with subjects that are relevant to the course you’re applying for A relevant bachelor’s degree from a recognised university is essential. You should have scored at least 55% marks, and reserved category students usually need 50% or more. To be eligible for a doctoral program, you must hold a master’s degree in the relevant subject with at least 60% marks. For SC/ST and OBC candidates, 55% marks may be acceptable.
  • Most UG programs require students to appear for the GBPUAT Entrance Exam .
  • However, B.Tech Biotechnology is an exception — here, admission is based on your JEE Main score.
  • The university conducts a separate entrance exam for PG courses.
  • For ICAR-accredited courses like M.Sc. Agriculture, the university may also consider scores from ICAR AIEEA-PG .
For Ph.D. admissions, GBPUAT organises a subject-wise entrance test, followed by a personal interview or departmental interaction.

No Domicile Requirement:

Students from outside Uttarakhand don't need to submit any domicile certificate. You’ll simply apply under the All India category, and your selection will be based purely on merit and performance.

GBPUAT Application Process for Non-Uttarakhand vs Domicile Students

Applying to GBPUAT is pretty straightforward, whether you're a resident of Uttarakhand or not. However, you’ll need to select the correct category during registration.

Step-by-Step Guide:

  1. Go to the official GBPUAT website: https://www.gbpuat.ac.in
  2. Register using your email and mobile number.
  3. Fill out the application form carefully.
  4. Upload your documents — mark sheets, photo, signature, etc.
  5. Pay the required application fee online.

Application Fee

  • General/OBC: ₹1200
  • SC/ST: ₹600

Key Documents Required

  • Class 10th & 12th certificates and mark sheets
  • UG/PG degree (for higher-level courses)
  • Caste certificate (if claiming reservation)
  • Photo ID (Aadhaar, Voter ID, etc.)
  • Passport-size photo
  • Domicile certificate only for Uttarakhand applicants

GBPUAT Seat Distribution & Reservation for Non-Uttarakhand vs Domicile Students

One of the key differences in the GBPUAT admission process is how the seats are divided between Uttarakhand students and those from the rest of the country.

Seat Division

  • 85% of the total seats in most programs are set aside for students who are residents of Uttarakhand.
  • The remaining 15% of the seats fall under the All India quota, which is open to students from other states.

Reservation Policies

  • Students from Uttarakhand benefit from the state's reservation system (SC, ST, OBC, etc.).
  • However, non-domicile students are eligible only for central category reservations (such as SC/ST/OBC/EWS, based on national guidelines).

What Happens If Seats Remain Empty?

If the seats reserved for Uttarakhand students are not filled, GBPUAT sometimes opens them up for all India quota candidates, though this decision depends on the university's internal policy and approval from higher authorities.

GBPUAT Cutoff Criteria for Non-Uttarakhand Students

Cutoffs determine whether or not you get selected, and for non-domicile students, these are often slightly higher due to limited seats. Since only 15% of seats are available to students from other states, the competition is fierce, and the cutoffs tend to be higher. Unlike Uttarakhand students, you won't receive any cutoff relaxation based on state domicile. Here’s a rough comparison (for illustrative purposes):

Course

Uttarakhand Domicile Cutoff

All India Cutoff

B.Sc. Agriculture

330/600

380/600

B.Tech Food Tech

310/600

365/600

M.Sc. Agronomy

270/600

340/600

If you are a non-Uttarakhand applicant, competition becomes sterner as there are fewer seats, but those who can make up a good entrance score, clear all eligibility criteria, and adequately prepare can still secure admission. ICAR recognition, affordable fees, good quality education, and the best placement support all tell us that GBPUAT is one of those public universities that stand as a class for itself for any candidate, even outside of the state.

Are you feeling lost and unsure about what career path to take after completing 12th standard?

Say goodbye to confusion and hello to a bright future!
